Yeah, they're not that great. Still eat a couple when the kids buy them though

You have to be eating the right chocolate, it really comes down to brand. The question is what type of chocolate you like and also if you can find any alternatives.

Hard, bland, and boring. OK, it is only £1.80 but still... For "Finest" it is crap*.

It's my understanding that these 'Finest' ranges are a con, as they're supplied by the same firms that supply the own brand 'cheapo' ranges. The only difference is the packaging usually.

I'd be interested to hear other people's experience with these 'finest' products, as I don't buy them.

I don't know why people get so excited over wine. Most of it tastes like cat's pee, or vinegar, to me, and I'd rather have a glass of grape juice.

Most of it will be made in China or somewhere like that and shipped half way around the world... And yes, some of the "cheapo" stuff is actually better.

Well, not really. Many ready meals are high in salt, though the situation does seem to have improved in recent years. For example:

Shoppers given hit list of high-salt ready meals

Reliance on ready meals puts men at risk from too much salt

It's sometimes said that a cheap way for manufacturers to give some taste to bland food is to add salt to it.

Lobster. I just don't get the big deal about it.

Because a good bottle of wine is fantastic. You don't have to spend much either, you can get a perfectly good bottle for £5 in the Supermarket.

Fresh tuna. I've tried to cook it 3 or 4 times and whatever I do I just can't seem to get any flavour in it. I am a competent cook so I know not to overcook it but it just doesn't do it for me. Oh, and scallops, not much taste and expensive.

Caviar and oysters - they are rank. I had some fresh lobster in Maine and it was OK but not wow like the steak I had with it.

With curries, I prefer to get a takeaway for the same price as a store bought one. I have tried to make one and not got it right yet.

I'm with you there! I've been trying 10 years and it still tastes nothing like a real Indian takeaway. I've given up...

Do they grow them there? My goodness, a really good watermelon must be the most incredible fruit there is. Imagine a hot summer day, picnic at the lake or on the beach, fried chicken, sliced ham, potato salad, cole slaw, sweet pickles and a delicious iced cold watermelon... sweet as can be.

Please tell me you dont believe all watermelons are as you described.

Sushi does nothing for me. Just tastes vaguely fishy and salty.

Try marinading the tuna before cooking, and never cook it more than very rare.

Scallops?!?!?!?! All I can think is that you've never had them cooked well either. They are delightful.

Marinade it in Coriander, Ginger, and a light soy sauce or rice wine if you have some fish stock that could be added as well. You chop all the ingredients up finely and place with the tuna in a plastic bag in the fridge for more than twenty minutes

you should try it with the wasabi and soy sauce
take a pea of wasabi and thin it with soy then dip the fish in the dipping sauce it really livens it up.

More reason to avoid this supermarket's own brand fish pie as I've got just one word for it - barf!

I have marinaded it. Each time I cooked it I did it rare. Thing is, a marinade doesn't really sink in much unless you leave it for at least 24 hours. I just found the taste really bland.

As for scallops, last time I had them was in a good restaurant. They were pan fried and served on rocket with a balsamic vinaigrette. A nice combination but eaten in isolation I still found them lacking in taste.

Having been 'cooker-less' for nearly 3 weeks I have been living on ready made meals {and handouts from my Mum). I can honestly say there isn't one decent ready meal out there

I've tried the expensive Waitrose / M&S meals and the cheaper alternatives - I've actually gone back to basics now and am living on toast

Thank God my cooker will be sorted this evening

I love most sea food (scallops especially - maybe they have been pants because they were overcooked? They need to be very underdone) but I was really underwelmed by sea urchin.

If you had suchi at Selfridges, you had Yo Sushi, which is cr*p. Try the Japan Cafe in Golders Green - the best I have had in the UK.
