What Do You Want From V22 if we ever get it.

So v21 has come and gone.

I have only had 2 lockups since the v15-21 upgrade

1 : PIP cause a lockup 2 : box would not come out of standby in the morning.

And i am quite happy, really apart from the beginning
of most programs being missing a few seconds.

Strange the virtually 100% of movies i record are perfect.

things i would like to see in V22

1 : program info in the video list without having to play it.

2 : A indication of whether a program has been played in the video list.

3 : A reminder option in the TVguide to add to single or series record.

4 : be able to record a third channel by turning of the real time buffer, I know it will be limited to the 2 recording muxes.

5 : ability to turn off the interactive funtion, mpeg, I never use it.

right that me for the moment, add your requests to the list.

regards

John.

1. Will never happen on the 9200***

2. Best indication of that is delete after play.

3. that would be useful ... its an enhancement to basic function so unlikely to happen.

4. There is no buffer when recording 2 progs?

5. This wasn't implemented when it was a real issue.
NEVER use it

1. Not to lock up (just gone back to v20).
2. Picture not to go black for a second when the box starts to record while I'm watching a programme live.

I'd mainly like AR and series link to work as well as they can, and I think that's more to do with the broadcasters.

The other thing I'd really like is folders for storing programmes, though I think that's a next-gen request.

Two things that would be nice for the 9200 are the ability to turn off the interactive processing, to stop lock ups (we can dream) and the ability to use series link with auto-padding (not that I've had too many problems with AR so far).

I'd say EPG saved to disc, but if they've not done that by now I doubt they will do.

- MHEG off option

- Some form of error reporting so it tells you when something hasn't worked

- Ability to upload programs back to the PVR

- Fixes to the "bugs" that seem to be apparent in v.21

- A disk file structure repair utility so reformats are not needed

Simple solution to having these options is to release the source code and tech specs and let others develop the firmware if Humax don't want to do it themselves.

That's a far from simple solution. The product's based on the NEC EMMA2 chip - and very probably, given the curious coincidence of some bugs between the Humax and the Topfield, it also uses some of NEC's "sample" code in there too.

The documentation for the EMMA2, and almost certainly parts of the code base too, are only available from NEC under a Non Disclosure Agreement.

So, to release the code, Humax would have to spend a lot of time making sure they weren't also inadvertently releasing any material that might fall under the NDA.

Since the MHEG engine is also provided by a third party, and integrated into the code, that too is an issue - you can't just hand that over to everyone to include when they build a new firmware.

It may sound very nice in theory to release source code, but in practise, unless you took a decision on day one that you would eventually be doing that, and other design and implementation choices were made accordingly, then it's far from simple.

Humax's time would be better spent working on the code themselves than in the many hours it might take to prepare it for a potentially very small audience of capable people to think about whether or not they could improve the box themselves.

I would like the audio outputs to passthrough other connected devices without having to set a dummy recording and go into standby. Also for the source button to actually work, as ever since the 1.06 upgrade it does nothing.

I would like the converse to the option "Do you wish to record this programme or the whole series" i.e. "Do you wish to cancel this programme or the whole series." Only the latter option is available. It's annoying if you are about to watch a programme live that is series linked to record. At present I have to wait for the recording to start then immediately stop it.

Agreed. It's not particularly bad but it is sluggish compared to modern Sky+. Puts me in mind of the old Amstrad first generation boxes. It doesn't help that the key auto repeat delay is too short resulting in menus cascading further than you wanted

I'd also like to see:
1. The PiP removed from the guide so that you can see more channels at once.
2. A library button than isn't tucked away beneath a flap as if the designer was ashamed of the functionality.
3. When the box comes out of standby could it avoid spurious signals on the SCART socket, please? I have all my kit going through an electronic switch box and when the Hummy starts up to record something the picture wobbles and interferes with what I'm watching.
4. More volume control - I have to run mine at 100%.
5. Can it please power up to standby, not 'full-on' (ie;when you unplug it or turn it off at the back)
6. Please save the EPG to hard disk. Don't try and tell me it can't be done. Display the currently saved guide then revise it if a correction is spotted. Hardly rocket science.

I would the box to turn off properly, and not get left in 'Active Standy'. So far this appear to be happening when I chase play two back to back series linked progs ... (and delete them?) before shutting down for the night. It has happened to me 3 times so far since the upgrade ....

Note: the 4am OTA check can be used to clear this state, but I have disabled that for the moment ... maybe I'll re-enable it again .... its a workaround though ... not a fix!

I'd like to see:

1. The PIP be able to be switched on/off in the EPG by using the PIP button under the flap in the handset. This would satisfy users who like the PIP being displayed and also those who would like to see it removed to make room for extra channels to be displayed per page instead.
2. Use the LIST button on the handset to bring up the recorded programmes list instead of having to use the button under the flap.
3. Have configuration options for the above (in the Preferences menu perhaps?) so that the default for EPG display (PIP on) and the LIST button (display menu options) are the same as now so no disruption is caused to existing users but those users who want the changes can set the default for initial EPG display to have no PIP and/or the LIST button to bring up the recorded programmes list as they wish.
4. Use of the left and right arrow keys to ad skip backwards and forwards respectively when viewing recorded programmes instead of having to use the buttons under the flap.
5. Store the EPG on disk.

This is the big one for me. I dread to think of the amount of electricity my Humax consumes because I leave it on so that I don't have to wait to view the EPG.

I just want what I've had for 7 years with Tivo i.e. Series Link and padding at the same time. Not much to ask.

I've heard so much about your Tivo lately, remind me why you bothered buying the inferior Humax? Especially as it only has two tuners.

Anyway, my wish list items;
Improved ability to pick up start times rather than missing the first few seconds.
More than 25 SL's. Regular reach the limit which causes a bit of a headache.

Other than that, it's very reliable up here in Yorkshire.

Trapped in the past.

The only modification that should be be considered is ... padding or FP-SL ... BUT we already have that ...

I sometimes wonder myself. Don't really need two tuners, just nice once in a while, which is why I had the Humax for 2 years just as a secondary device for resolving recording clashes. Series Link is what made me promote it to the primary device, but in the process I have had to give up the concept of always getting the whole of a program which is just ridiculous and most definitely a backwards step. As a result I have Virgin
+ as well set to record all the same series and it does have padding. However, just to answer the obvious question of why don't I use V+ instead of Humax as my primary device, well contrary to popular belief I do actually like the Humax. It's better than V+ for lots of things, particularly navigation of recordings.
I just don't know how anybody in their right mind can defend the feature of a "recorder" which fails to record the whole of a program.

Absolute nonsense. You have obviously not lived with Series Link long enough to realise what a release it is from constantly scanning schedules to see if your favourite program has been moved because of soccer etc. Having had the equivalent Season Pass facility for 7 years it has just become a way of life. I travel a lot and even if I spotted a schedule change I couldn't do anything about it. I just never look at program schedules, it's tuly "set and forget". But, strange as it may seem, I do like to see the whole of a program, and AR at the moment just doesn't do it for me.
