Obscure Bands/Artists that you love, and no-one else has a clue!
Obscure is such a horrible word, I mean it in the 'I've never been lucky enough to hear or understand them!' sense, rather than being obscure because they're bad!
My top 2 will have to be: The Cardiacs (Like Marmite, you either love or hate them). Here's a great example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlfWo...eature=related (I love The Cardiacs, went to see them last year, was a struggle to grab friends along! I basically had to buy their tickets lol) My 2nd choice will have to be an early/mid 80's band called Crawling Chaos, I've only got a couple of their albums, Homunculus Equinox + Waqqaz. They're probably as obscure as anyone could be! heh If you can find Waggaz, get it - great album. If you can find any major info about them at all I'll pay you! Anyone love an obscure band that I can check out? Please, no-one say 'The Spice Girls' !! |

Wow, that Cardiacs track is like nothing I've ever heard!
I remember watching these live at Southport arts centre in the 90's, they've been around since the 80's but no one's ever heard of them Diesel Park West - Boy on the top of the news http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=13uzqFzvpjw |

For me it's Mostly Autumn. Brilliant rock band with proggy overtones who are doing very well...on a small scale. www.mostly-autumn.co.uk is their site. They pre-sale their new albums to fund the recording of them and you get a special edition release a couple of months ahead of the full release - I've done it for the last 3 or 4 albums now. Check them out.

Well Seasick Steve's probably mine, but he's now quite well known because of Jools appearances (I started a thread about him that got quite a few replies- he apparently sounds awesome live

The Kills.
A brilliant sleazy, blues rock double act. I'm suprised they haven't had more exposure as the guy is Kate Moss's boyfriend. I bet she get's jealous that he works with someone way hotter than her. This song got stuck in my head for about 2 weeks.www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3fZP7QC4PE Electrelane. They've split up now but they made some of the best indie music of the past decade, imo. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGWSxE7Ql-U Die Toten Hosen Very big in Europe but music not in English never catches on here. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5X-yqPhItr8 |

Some of my favourite obscure bands/artists:
Jacob Golden - I fell in love with his album 'Revenge Songs' instantly (still play it every day and I've had it for a few months now). Saw him live recently as welll and all I can say is he's a truly amazing performer with an incredible voice, and he's also an absolutely lovely guy. Deserves to be much bigger than he is. Next single: Out Come The Wolves. IAMX - Fabulously dark and flamboyant... great, sexy songs... going to see him live very soon - actually cannot wait ![]() Camera Obscura- Their music's been used in a Tesco Commercial and most recently on the opening credits of 'PS I Love You' but still hardly anyone seems to know who they are! Beautiful songs though, people are missing out. |

Marillion. I am fed up with telling people, no they haven't split up, no Fish isn't their singer and no they are not heavy metal. They are now in the middle of recording their 15th album which I can't wait for. The clip is of Neverland - one of the best songs ever. |

Don't know if they are obscure....?
Kashmir - don't think they're that well known in the UK. Kashmir - Ruby Over Diamonds : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cd6syaNIQQ Veto relative new band, very good imo. Veto - You Are A Knife : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8bZhOHqAVs Trentemøller probably not that known in the UK either or maybe he is? And this song is a different genre. Trentemøller - Moan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAQWpTIjusY |

Well, it all depends - a lot of the stuff I listen to is still popular, just not mainstream.

I met Fish years ago and saw Marillion back in his era a few times. I have also seen the modern Marillion and they are quite different acts -Steve Rotheray on guitar is about the only similarity. the new lead singer does a good job and it is like comparing Peter green's Fleetwood Mac with Rumours-era Fleetwood Mac - same name, essentially a different band. I prefer to old-era, but the new one is good too. I was dubious about seeing them without Fish, but as a band, they are still good, just different. shame that they don't do "Garden Party" or "he knows you know" but you can't have everything! |

The Milk Teeth.
Met them a couple of years ago whilst they were supporting The Subways, they were really nice guys and they gave us signed EPs which perhaps makes me a little biased. I think they're pretty good though. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zBdQbmGKy18 The Dodgems. Again, they were supporting The Subways a couple of years ago. I think one of the band members has joined Arctic Monkeys since I saw them, although don't quote me on that. http://www.myspace.com/thedodgems Robots In Disguise. Not sure how obscure this band is anymore due to their appearances in The Mighty Boosh. But I think they're pretty good, although not the best live band i've heard. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6H13RprHi3I Lykke Li. Swedish singer/songwriter. First heard her just before Christmas, now I can't get enough of her. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mUC0ezAlHwE |

Found a band called Passenger (based in Brighton I think) - Album called Wicked Man's Rest...
Track 2 on the album called 'Things You've Never Done' has got to be one of the most amazing songs I have ever heard. Brilliant Brilliant album. |
