Steaming a frozen chicken breast - urgent advice
Faxy Fowler
06-02-2008
Can I be absolutely clear on this.

I am having pasta, tomato and hopefully chicken tonight.

Can I steam a frozen chicken breast to chop up and eat with pasta and tomato? How long will it take and if it can be done will it cook properly?

Sorry, no degree in home economics here.....

I don't know, but I wouldn't. Can you defrost it in the microwave first?

I could, but I tend to find it cooks it on the outside and it goes crusty and horrible....blurrgh.

I've decided to abandon it, just pasta in sauce. Will let the the chicken defrost of its own accord for something else tomorrow.

Thanks anyhow.

I'd go for a big fat no on that one.
Steaming it isn't going to get the inside hot enough.
Have it tomorrow and have a jam butty tonight.

Edit - Ah, I'm too late, I see!

Defrost it first. Cooking any chickern frozen ,even steamed, is not worth the risk. A few munutes on defrost in a microwave could save you a lot of suffering later on.
