The last 2 weeks or so (from 19th Jan), the guide has been blank. Searching for new firmware doesn't help. Deleting all channels and then retuning doesn't help. The channels are still viewable - it's just a real pain trying to record in advance without the guide.

Any suggestions on how to fix this, or give up on this oldie now (it is well over 2y old)?

Have you tried turning it off (at the wall) for a few minutes?

Also worth trying a Default Setting which will force a full station rescan. My 8000T still gets the EPG OK (though never fully complete, but that's nothing new.)
