What's your favourite kind of cheese?

I can't think of a type of cheese I don't like. I'm from the US, so I'm enamored with variety of quality cheeses you have here.

I like to eat cheese with crackers (biscuits) and a glass of red wine. Lovely!

I like mature cheddars, wenselydale with cranberries, stilton, camembert, brie, and smoked cheddar (the proper stuff, not the processed stuff you can buy in a tube--yuck!).

Recently, I tried baked Camembert and it was lovely (smelly, but nice!).

I am a big fan of Lancashire cheese.
I have also recently discovered Applewood smoked cheddar.
It's so addictive I fear that the people who make it might actully put crack cocaine in it.

munster is heaven - I love french unpasteried cheeses. There is a fantastic deli stall in Swiss cottage where we get our cheeses from. It also has amazing meats, pates, pies and salads.

Erithacus,
If you enjoyed the camembert then go for the queen of cheeses called Livarot.

I loved grilled halloumi with salad - the saltiness and the slightly acidic salad dressing just hits the spot

Tesco announced a 95% price cut on Stilton from their cheese counter yesterday. I was just about to rush over and bite their hands off when they carried on "... with mandarin and ginger".

I'd go for a Spanish Manchegan cheese - Great by itself, or melted over meat in a main meal!

See, there is a whole new world of cheese here for me. I've never heard of a lot of the ones mentioned here. I've taken note and will try some of these, immediately, if possible.

In the US you would find it impossible to buy a cheese made from unpasteurised milk. We are privileged to be able to buy 'real' cheese. Unfortunately it will probably be another avenue of pleasure that some government arse will close in the not too distant future.

Meanwhile I suggest you fill your boots with as many as you can find.

Sadly, a lot of the cheese in the US is ultra-pasteurised to give it a longer shelf life. The process impairs the texture and taste of the cheese immensely.

I'm in heaven here!

M&S have Wensleydale with stem ginger at the moment. It's gorgeous on digestives - it's like a little mini cheesecake.

Also Sussex Scrumpy is fairly gorgeous, as is Applewood smoked (I understand the crack cocaine comment, Espresso). I'm also fond of mature cheddar, double Gloucester, halloumi (pan fried on salad with capers and balsamic dressing), feta (with olives)...I could go on.

LOL, they dashed your hopes. They would have to pay me to take that off their hands.

Why mess with Stilton? and why use ginger and mandarin why not stick Jelly Babies and marmite in there instead?

My perfect cheese is M&S dolcelatte gorgonzola. mmmmmmm

For me a nice quality Cheshire takes some beating - I love the crumbly British cheeses!

Red leicester makes a fab cauliflower cheese, or just eat it in lumps on its own.....

The weirdest cheese was a couple of christmas ago; cheddar and chocolate from Asda, I think. It was really lovely!

I can't stand the smell of blue stilton (I used to live next to the dairy that made it ) but white stilton with mango and ginger rocks!

Roquefort is great, but only if you like strong flavours. I also love gruyere, not so much for eating on its own as for melting and using in sauces.

Oh and that french cheese they use in tartiflette, reblochon. Gorgeous. Very pungent. We brought some back from France and it made the kitchen very whiffy

For the third time, it's still Godminster Mature Organic Chedder, but the angel tap-dancing on my tongue is getting a bit knackered now.
