having trouble

hi peep
just wondering if someone can help me with my problem?
i have a LG42PT85 plasma tv and i have bought a vga to vga lead to go from my acer 5000 laptop to the tv when i plug them in i aint getting signal to the tv

On the laptop there's usually a key combination you need to select to choose between outputting the video to the laptop screen and an external scree.
Usually shift and possibly one of the "F" keys...it may have an icon of a screen on it...check your laptops user manual.
