Madness
A lot of people just know Madness as " a pop group from 20 years ago" and a lot of people know at least one or two tracks by them.
However, I would call myself a big fan of them, I have all their albums and have seen them live three times, plus wear Madness t-shirts a lot of the time. So, I was wondering, are there anymore Madness fans in DS? Have you seen them live? What is your favourite song or album by them? (mine is probably Absolutely, although I've became more attached to Rise and Fall) |

seen them twice
"House of Fun" followed by "baggy Trousers" and "it's only love" not a great fan - they are a fun pop-band, but I like them enough and have good memories of when they were the Nutty Boys. also seen Bad Manners, the Beat, Skaville, Selecter, Pauline Black, Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff, The Specials, Fun Boy Three, Culture Club etc for a kid that used to dress exclusively in demin and go to NWOBHM gigs as a teenager, I have developed a wide taste! |

It was "It Must Be Love", a cover of a Labi Siffre song!
I've seen Labi Siffre 3 times so I should have got it right! |

I went to the Madfest in 1992 and always liked madness right from the start when i first heard One Step Beyond. I think people have forgotten just how big Madness were in thier day.
One step beyond was like nothing anyone had ever heard before, when that came on in the Youth club or whereever you were, the place went mental. I am grateful that they are still going strong, but they have become a little dull in their old age im afraid to say, I wish they would go back to their early style. |

Several wonderful hit singles, plus a couple of very good - yet underrated albums (The Rise and fall springs to mind).

I never liked Rise and Fall apart from the obvious singles, I think they should've kept the "Nutty" thing going like on One step beyond and Absolutly.
They did show there real quality as musicians and songwriters during the 80's but they lost the dance element bigtime. |

I think I've seen madness around 10-12 times since 1992 which was when I became a huge fan. Collected anything and everything I could and still do today.
I think they are really underrated. Most people see them as a jokey band who make funny singles eg, Baggy Trousers and House Of Fun but I think they are so much deeper than that. the songs usually told a very good, sometimes dark story over a very upbeat song. Anyway, fave singles are Tomorrow's just Another Day, One Better Day, Embarrassment. Fave albums; Seven or Absolutely Fave songs: When Dawn Arrives; Not Home Today; March of the Gherkins and the Rise and Fall |

Saw them twice in the early 80's then again about 3/4 years ago and that was one of the best concerts ive ever been to. What should also be said of them is they had some of the best videos ever, with a nod towards Monty Python.

Seen them live twice-an experience I'd thoroughly recommend. Favourite songs are Michael Caine, Wings of a dove and Tomorrow's just another day.

''one better day'' really reminds me of leaving school in 1984, I used to fancy Chas and Suggs.I saw Chas in Camden one day and Suggs still looks hot.

I always liked them when I was growing up - we need more bands like them today who don't take themselves seriously, often parody themselves and just like to lark about.
I went through a stage of listening to their stuff all the time along with all the 70s punk/new wave and 2Tone singles my Mum had bought at the time. Now that I've grown up (well, kinda ) I find that I only like the "One step beyond" and "absolutely" material. I can't stand "our house" anymore - heard it way too many times and the same goes for their cover of "It must be love." The retro radio stations focus way too much on those singles.Personally my favourite Madness song is "Night boat to cairo" - the video just typifies them. I think other bands out at the time like Bad Manners, The Beat, The Specials and to a lesser extent Selecter should get more attention because their impact is overlooked. |

"The Business" is my favourite insteumental and my favourite song is "Embarassment". It' such a sad song underneath. |

I saw them at Finsbury Park in August 1992, they were supported by the fantastic Ian Dury, but also Morrissey, who got bottles of wee thrown at him, not by me a hasten to add!!!
![]() They made a Video of the concert, Madstock? Anyway it is in the back of my cupboard somewhere and me and my friend are on it, on the preshow talk to the crowd guff as we were right at the front of the concert, which was super cool ![]() Fav album, can't pick, same for fav track as it depends what mood I'm in. But In The Middle Of The Night always makes me smile. |

Top band with some great 80s tunes. For me, more of a singles group, as their greatest hits is 100% from start to finish !! Love Suggs solo stuff too.

Pauline Black made a pretty big impact to the two tone scene. |

Yeah poor morrisey, I saw him get bottled off and it was shame because he was really good. Ian Dury was awesome though, It was the first time i'd seen him live and he had that crowd in his hand from the minute he walked (hobbled) on stage, Gawd Bless him.
