........the clock on my Hummy is definitely becoming dimmer than the rest of the display. Anyone else getting this?

Yes, and yes it has been discussed before. Due to the technology used for the display - over time - it will dim. The clock segments are dimmer than the others because they are constantly lit (for the time!)

The clock segments on my 7 year old VCR are still fine, that's progress for ya.

That'll be useful for my Humax in the bedroom then, it lights the room up during the night at the moment - I havent blanked it out yet .

I guess the only purpose its serves is to indicate that the box is on, as the other info is available on the TV screen.

Some of the individual segments on mine are dimmer than others whether in the clock or channel section.

Strange, I noticed this on a brand new Humax out of the box that I bought for my mother-in-law.

I put it down to the fact that the sun was shining on the display.

I remember it being dicussed, but at the time there was some doubt whether it was people's imagination or not. Hence my title.

I wonder how far it'll go? I hope it doesn't disappear altogether!

I can hardly see the display characters on my Silver Hummy due to the mirrored front panel - I get great reflections of the carpet and the cat likes it too.

I've had my front panel covered over so long i've forgotten there was a clock on it.

My clock display seems fine to me. The bigger problem I have with the clock on it is that it's like a minute or so behind (compared to what time is displayed on sky news/bbc news 24) and it's causing my sceduals to miss the first minute of a recording

Surely that only affects recordings set without padding or auto tracking? BBC News24 is quite good at Auto Tracking.

...is there actually a way you can manually dim the clock?!

We have it in the bedroom and I find it a little too bright - if I remember I put a DVD case in front of it but not ideal...

Look in craft shop for coloured celluloid. Cut a bit to the size of the perspex window on the front panel, and attach it; maybe with some clear double-sided sticky-tape squares from the same source.

Choose the colour carefully - a colour close to that of the illuminated digits (ie. blue, green or clear) will transmit most of the light maintaining the brightness. A distant colour such as orange may render the digits almost black.

Ever heard how pilots train to fly at night ? The aircraft windscreen is tinted one colour (blue I think) and the student wears lenses tinted the opposite colour (orange) rendering the view outside dark to the student but not to the instructor.
