Hi all,

Valentines day is fast approaching so thought I would like to shock my wife and cook a nice meal for us both.

I am hopeless at cooking so any ideas??

How about the meal that Gordon Ramsay did for Channel 4 recently I think it was Scallops, steak, sweet potato chips and chocolate mouse. I think the step by step links are still on the channel 4 website.

It seemed to be a bit of a blokey type menu so give it a go.

So steak and scallops are off the menu then I had a brilliant recipe for vegetable chilli which was so simple anyone who could turn a cooker on could manage. I'll go and have a look for it - unless of course your wife doesn't like chilli

3tbsp olive oil
2 onions - chopped
2 tsp caster sugar
9oz chestnut mushrooms - sliced
2 garlic clives - sliced
2 tsp mild chilli powder
1 tbsp ground coriander
290g sweet red pepper sauce - i used lloyd Grossman
1/2 pt veg stock
can of chick peas
410g can of black eyed beans

heat the oil in a heavy-based saucepan and fry the onions and sugar over a high heat until deep golden. Add mushrooms, garlic, chilli powder and ground coriander, fry for 2 -3 minutes.

Stir in the pepper sauce and bring to boil. Reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 20 mins. Season and serve

This is great with crusty bread or rice

Pasta and a salad is a pretty safe bet. Loads of cheese and your lady's favourite veggies in the pasta.
Get something from Marks & Sparks for afters!
Bottle of champers?
Then early night!

Good luck with cooking your meal. Cooking is very easy to do and I am sure you will enjoy it.

I make a lovely dinner of onions, tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms and just chuck them in a frying pan or even better a wok. Then I cook them down to a lovely sauce and 5 minutes towards the end I bung grated cheese on the top.

A very good meal served with pasta or simply on its own.

good luck and just remember to cook the spices over a highish heat when you add them - it is a really simple recipe and I've cooked it for the family loads of times
