a friend of mine bought a Toshiba SD 555 SA DVD player from america and has lost the remote. Shes finding it difficult to get a replacement. Will another models remote work? Or any suggestions for a supplier?

There are quite a few companies around the web that can supply original and replacement remotes.

Does your friend have the manual for the DVD player, if so see if one of those on the site above matches her player. Remote controls are generally the same for a companies particular model around the world although the model number of the player may be slightly different. For example, Toshiba and many others have a habit of adding an E to the end of a model number to denote a European version.
