Humax 9200 breaking DVD Recorder picture up

It used to work fine but for the last week when I have the RF signal going into my Humax 9200 first (and it's turned on) then daisy chained into my Pioneer HDD/DVD Recorder the Freeview signal is so weak on my DVD Recorder it causes the picture to barely work and then drop completely.

But when I put the Humax 9200 in Standby the signal is fine. If I switch them around so the DVD Recorder gets the signal first and is then sent to the Humax 9200 it's fine with both on.

I'd prefer it if the Humax 9200 had the strongest signal (i.e - First) and due to the fact you need to use the RF output on the DVD Recorder to give it's Analogue tuner a signal it's hard to do this and have the signal sent out to the Humax 9200 at the same time (i.e - they both need the same RF out).

Any ideas why suddenly the Humax 9200 is overpowering the signal the DVD Recorder receives? I've been using it this way since October/November and only over the last week it's been a problem.

I am using a a 3m RF cable from the wall socket and a 0.75m RF cable from the Recorder to PVR (both are identical except for length). Here are the cables I am using:

So I know I have decent quality RF cables.

What is "Antenna Power" supposed to do? It makes no difference whenever I enable it.

Thanks.

You shouldn't enable it unless there is a compatible device connected to the aerial input of the Humax. That would be a Mast Head Amp, an amp built into the aerial, or another device for which a DC supply via it's coax signal output is more convenient than a local transformer.

Did you adjust the RF/Modulator output frequency since the firmware update/last defaults reset.

Thanks, understood.

Do you mean the RF channel number? i.e - the one an analogue TV picks up to detected the Humax PVR.

Now you mention it I have changed that. What is the default number? I can put it back.

Yes if you've adjusted it you would have done so for a reason ie. to make it different to the output from Sky box, VCR, and all received broadcasts. It normally needs to be three channels apart from any other analogue broadcast (BBC1-Five,VCR,Sky) and not adjacent to any digital multiplex - not directly because of interference but because the strength of signal might cause the receiver AGC to turn down ("blinding the tuner") such that the digital signal is below the tuner threshold.

But if more than two digital Mux on you DVD recorder are affected, and it was working previously with the same parameters set, then it sounds like a fault.

I changed it to try and fix the problem I have with my Humax 9200 and my TV:

As someone said they changed it and it helped. I was dubious as I don't even use the RF connection on my TV but I tried it anyway.

I've put it back to 36 (I think 36 is the default, 35 is too close to Analogue Channel 5) and it "appears" to have fixed it. I'll have to monitor it at different types of the day to be sure.

I'll never need the RF connection on my TV as it's Analogue only. Thanks again nvingo.

I don't know that as I only noticed it to be an actual fault last night.

Previously I'd noticed it but just fiddled with the wires (thinking I had them squashed to much at the back next to the back of my cabinet) and turned off the PVR I wasn't using at the time when I was trying to record from the DVD Recorder, at the time I was going out anyway.

I only know it affected BBC News 24 and BBC 2 (but they're probably on the same MUX?) but didn't effect Sky News, that continued to work.

p.s - What does AGC mean?

Thanks. I know what Gain is but didn't get the acronym.
