Hi all,

because i read all the various posts here on the htk 215, i went out and bought one. Love it to bits and i have hardly been able to drag myself away from the TV! (watching gladiator on dts is like seeing the movie again for the first time!)

anyway, problem: one speaker (rear left) has suddenly "dropped out" and has nothing coming out of it. (ie not even a test tone) I swapped speakers to see where the problem is and its NOT the speaker itself, but the amp doesnt seem to be sending a signal at all

any ideas? or is this a "BOX AND TAKE BACK TO DEALER" sort of thing?

Thanks all

Have you tried using a different cable in the rear left speaker out port? It maybe that the cable is shot rather than the speaker.

I agree with Ahewitt, move the cable from the amp for the right hand side and try it for the left hand rear speaker. If this works it must be a cable problem.

I presume you have checked all the connections are secure at the back of the amp. Have you checked the cable leading to the left hand speaker for damage?

If it isn't the cable it must be the amp.

The first negative thing we have heard about the HTK! Incidentally I've also got one of those nice looking silver and neon blue jvc cd/tuners. I now pipe that through the sony and it sounds fantastic!

try a working speaker on that lead.. if not working then try and new piece of cable (or try and short bit of cable nearer to the amp to save running a long bit)

If no luck then it sounds like a problem with the 215

hi, thanks, you were right: on closer examination one of the cables had an almost perfectr slics in it, only noticeableif you bent the cable. replavced and now works fine (BTW, got mask of zorro on dvd...v.good)

Excellent news, I am glad you got it sorted.

Does the Mask of Zorro 5.1 sound use the back speakers a lot? We were a bit disappointed with the sound quality from 'The Rock' last night. Though it did use all the speakers, the back speakers were not used for sound effects a great deal (other than background music) when compared to other films we have. The Mask of Zorro is on my list (ever growing) of dvds I want to buy.

Thanks

hiya,
well I have to say I have shifted the balance on the rear ones to +3 as most of my dvds (except gladiator) seem to be very front'centric, to give it a more rounded feel.
(The test tone is very useful in this regard as you can just close your eyes and see if they seem equi'distant).

my only hassle now is that I only have a 27 inch tv. so I quite often end up plonking myself 2 m away from the screen and punch in parameters into set-up which i am sure the system is not really for (dont they always have huge living rooms in the catalgue pictures!)

cheers
