Tried flogging mine on ebay but no takers - and you can now buy it new for £120 so I may aswell keep it (next time I'll get a media center PC!).

That said, I'm getting something wierd happening on a few SD DVDs (Leon) - Its showing the film (widescreen) but in a small box in the center of the screen (black bars at the top AND sides)

I can correct this on the TV, but its not ideal, as its stretching the image from something that appears to have been shrunk - some SD widescreen films are fine (Hanibal). Seems strange...

Something to do with the DVD or the Player? Given that it worked correctly on my old Toshiba DVD player id think the latter?

Is your version of Leon a letterbox movie not anamorphic widescreen?
Some TV's have issues with HDMI aspect ratio switching, that could be an issue as well.

I paid the £120 for mine & wouldn't sell it for £150, its a good DVD player & Std DVD look excellent, much better than the cheap £40 upscaling job I previously had & also better than my Pioneer Std DVD player/recorder which is 4yr old.

Its the anamorphic widescreen version (according to the box anyway! - guess I could stick the disc into the PC to double check)

Apparantly there is a firmware update for the HD-EP30, I might give that a whirl and see if it fixes the problem.
