True Surround What ??
Just got my 5.1 system today. Hooked my DVD up with Coax purely for the fact that it supports it. And i have an optical running from the TV to the amp. Sky and Satellite boxes are running through scart into TV, and out via the tv through optical.
My question is, even though my system is not fully 'True' because i do not have my satellite and Sky running via optical directly to the amp. It still sounds amazing and sounds like any other decent surround i have heard. What am i missing out on? |

Well you are not getting true 5.1 audio from the SKY channels that use it (those being the SKY movies and the HD channels) but if you don't have access to them then the amp can still create a pseudo surround field from plain stereo.
DVD's are providing 5.1 of course via the digital coax and if the majority of DVD movies don't sound any different to those broadcast in stereo then something is wrong

No i have the family pack. And even on Channel 4 i,robot sounds like a proper surround sound movie. Full bass, different sounds out of each speaker etc.

No doubt Dolby Prologic 1 and 2 can do wonders with stereo sound sources but rent the movie on DVD and then listen to it with DD5.1 or DTS, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Personally if you can I would just have phono leads out from the tv to the amp, then have an optical cable from Sky to the amp if you have Sky Movies (which are broadcast in 5.1). There is no way Dolby Prologic II is going to sound the same as 5.1. You will get surround sound but with 5.1 you do have specific sounds from each speaker specially choosen for it to match the film.
