Source Digital Spy:

X Factor runner-up Rhydian Roberts has been left disappointed following a snub from the Welsh rugby team.

Welsh rugby union chief executive Roger Lewis had previously asked the singer, from Powys in west Wales, to perform the Welsh national anthem before a game.

However, executives have now made a U-turn and banned Rhydian from appearing.

A WRU spokesman said: "Our focus now is on using community choirs."

Rhydian's uncle Nigel Roberts told The People: "It is astonishing. We feel the WRU has messed up."

Andrew Lloyd Webber recently denied claims that Rhydian had been approached to star in the Phantom Of The Opera sequel.

Banned him?? It's not as if he's going to attempt to break through security with a microphone in his hand, is it? LOL. Have you seen this man? If so, don't let him anywhere near the pitch! Still, yet another mention. Highest profile X Factor runner-up ever?

ooh G4 fans may disagree.

Was this DS new piece lifted from a Welsh newspaper paper?

In February? Wasn't their album out by the end of February? I'll have to look at my carefully- archived back issues of Hello and see if I missed their 4 page spread....

Isn't this just old news taken from an article a week or so ago where Katherine Jenkins was also told she wouldn't be singing as they were taking the choir route.

I supposed that it was lifted from this one:
http://www.people.co.uk/news/tm_head...name_page.html

But the information wasn't new, and the same for Katherine Jenkins.
It is just sensationalist tabloid headlines, again

.......their album was rushed out for Mother`s Day...........all covers (but it did sell very well). I think even G4 fans would have to agree even they didn`t receive the unprecedented media coverage that Rhydian is currently receiving (and he hasn`t even started recording his album yet)

Oh well, they have also "banned" Bryn Terfel (who was at yesterday`s game) and Katherine Jenkins......so not bad company to be "banned" with

'Banned' and 'snubbed' are ridiculous words to use in reference to this story. They've simply decided to change back to using the choirs. No one's been insulted or slighted in any way.

Are we suggesting that perhaps uncle Nigel didn't actually say that, and that it's... erm fiction?

I can't imagine Uncle Nige talking to the People. I bet he said that in response to a question about Rugby and nothing to do with singing.

It is interesting that DS chose to report only on this story and ignored the other article from today's press especially as this is really old news.

Welsh rugby teams snub? It has nothing to do with them who sings the anthem or who doesn't. Talk about going over the top  Anyway I have to say it was much better without someone leading the singing yesterday.

Only the best to be banned with.

That is what the WRU said in an email to one of Rhydian's fans who emailed them to ask if he was singing at the Wales/Scotland match.

Rhydian himself said on Jonathan Davies' show S4C that he would be busy rehersing in Wakefield so would miss it anyway.

It is interesting that DS chose to report only on this story and ignored the other article from today's press especially as this is really old news.
I wonder why when it is definitely OLD news rehashed?

This is making something out of nothing as none of the six nations teams are using solo singers to sing the anthems - in fact if you follow rugby you will know that no solo singers were used in France for the Rugby World Cup - really upset Hayley Westenra as she has taken advantage of rugby, like Katherine Jenkins, - in her case the All Blacks - to promote herself around the world. So the original story was misinformed!

And as far as G4 are concerned - they did not have the coverage in the dailies that Rhydian has. They did however manage to get an album out in time for Mother's Day which sold extremely well and contained many of the songs they sang on X Factor but that was in the days where they could sing songs that they wanted rather than to these themes today. Also they had arranged all of them themselves so it suited their harmonies which no one has, as yet, repeated. It was also clear there was a market for this as bootleg albums from the shows recordings were being sold on eBay. Not necessary today as we have You Tube

Also as far as the covers issue is concerned LW and SonyBMG would not let G4 record any of their own stuff and only one original track on 3 albums and remember that then Steve Brookstein got the boot because he wanted to sing his own original tracks and SC didn't like it? But that is the joy, as Stephen Fry says, of the business we call show

The question to me is who is driving Rhydian's PR - is it his uncle as it is not in the style of Max Clifford, he would not let a negative word appear? Because Rhydian is in danger of suffering from 'tall poppy syndrome' long before he has actually released an album and surely that is not necessary or advisable?
