Steamers

I use a stove top steamer for all my veg, it's stainless steel, but the trouble is I keep letting the darn thing boil dry. That's the downside of having a computer in the kitchen, I keep getting sidetracked, so when I hear the familiar clicking sound it makes when there's a layer of burnt sediment all round the base, I know it's time to chuck it all away and start again.

It comes off quite easily after I've given it a spray with Fairy Power Spray and left it to soak. I just wish I could remember to put the time on for the veg, to prevent it happening. I hate overcooked veg anyway.

Why don't you buy an electric steamer? I swear by mine. Just put the timer on, you can leave the room, do whatever and it switches off when done! Veg are always really tasty too

I have a timer on my electric steamer too... it pings when its done and switches off.. I have never ever overcooked anything in it.

I use a hob steamer on the gas cooker, gas is cheaper than electric, I just make sure it's not boiling away, surely it's not that difficult to keep an eye on things.

No, you wouldn't think so, would you, but like I say, the computer's in the kitchen and I just think 'I'll just sit and flick around while that's doing, then before you know it, the steamer's boiled dry. I must remember to set the timer !!!!

Or don't go on the computer while you are cooking

I've been known to do this too because I have a tiny kitchen and leave the room. The computer can be a time machine because I don't realise how much time I've been on it!!

I now keep a portable timer right next to my computer and set it as soon as I sit down at 5-10 minute intervals to remind me that I have food cooking. I haven't burnt anything in a long time now.
