Recordable DVDs
I have recently recorded some old TV programs on a Sky Plus Box. They have been succesfully copied in real tine to a Sony DVD recorder onto DVD-RW discs. They work fine on a Toshiba SD 33 DVD player (Sony recorder is borrowed!).
However, copying the disc onto a non recordable disc on the computer for posterity the Toshiba does not like them. Do commercial DVD player have preferences as the hand book is quite vague. Any suggestions as to best possible disc format? TVMIA |

I assume by non recordable you mean non re-recordable (i.e. +R or -R).
Firstly use only top quality discs I use Verbatim and Pansonic only as they use Taiyo Uden dyes I am told. Most people will tell you that DVD-R are the most compatable discs but I have had problems with these on some players. If your PC DVDwriter supports it use DVD+R bitset to booktype as DVD-ROM as explained in http://www.cdfreaks.com/reviews/Incr...DVD-bitsetting I use Nero Speed to set the booktype to DVD-ROM. DVD+R's set up this way play on anything I have tried. |

Clearly I was not very awake making my original post at 7am! Yes I did mean non re-recordable!
The top quality discs is sound advice as I am known to be a bit of a cheapskate - they can always be used on the computer Probably reading the recorder manual and spec in depth might also be a bonus. Its just so annoying when a basically simple task does not go as expected. My final conclusion is that the Sky plus box is great for timeshifting but useless if there is anything you want to keep. Probably taking my own thread off topic but yes I agree you need the two. Preferably I would like to record in real time then transfer data files quickly to DVD.
Maybe a Freeview HD recorder with DVD write capability and drop Sky altogether...... |

Well obviously you save on the Sky subscription though Sky+ and a DVD recorder is definitely a superior solution.
