New v Graded

We are looking for a second Humax 9200TS but like a few on here, are struggling to source one due to low stock levels.

I have today received an email from Humax that features a link to purchase a graded box for £130 with a one year guarantee.

Now then good people, what is the recommendation - got for a graded 'as new' box or wait and spend an extra £30 and get a brand new one?

Hi.

I bought a grade version from humax on the 3 of January 2008.

It was a silver version.

It was packed perfectly, and i was unable to tell that it had been used before.

And as far as i cann tell it works just as well as a brand new version.

The downside is you only get a 1year warranty.

regards

John.

I think it is quite a delicate balance; personally I think I would incline towards the new box.

Buy it Online from John Lewis and use this promotional code at the checkout to get £20.00 off (First time customers only/valid until 28/02/08):

SHE851PCH445

Now you'll only be paying £159.00 and getting a brand new box with two year guarantee.

If you already have an John Lewis online account then just open another one using an alternative e-mail address and you'll be able to use the code.

Hope this helps

Out of stock everywhere by the looks of it!!

I have settled for a fully refurbished and reboxed model from Humax, sold via Martin Dawes for £130.99.

Collect from store and comes with a 2 year guarantee.

Be very careful to keep the paperwork stating the 2 year guarantee. Some suppliers have been erroneously quoting a 2 year guarantee when it is really only 1 year for refurbished. Providing they were claiming 2 years when you purchased and you can prove it then you will have a strong case if you do need to claim.

Do check the larger M&S stores - I got a new 9200T (in silver) from the main Manchester branch a couple of weeks ago for £125.

They told me they'd decided to stop selling Freeview boxes (or was it just PVRs?) and so were selling off their stock. Given it's a 'technology' item they will not transfer between stores, or home deliver (you need M&S Direct for that - and they don't have any stock left).
