Petrus, London - Has anyone been?
Would like to take hubby somewhere special for his birthday.
We've done a couple of Gordon Ramsays but I hear Petrus is the best (foodwise). The only thing that's putting me off is that it might be a bit stuffy. We want good food and wine but in a relaxing non snobby atmosphere. Any comments appreciated

Lucky, lucky hubby! I haven't been there, more's the pity, restaurants aren't as snobby as they used to be. How about a run out to the Fat Duck?

Great minds think alike as I thought of doing that. Also thought about taking him to raymond blancs place Les Quat Saisons as well and stay over night ..... until I saw that the room alone for one night is £400. So I booked 3 nights in Paris for the same price. That's his main pressie.I don't mind paying £200 on a meal but add a hotel room for one night and it's £600 is a bit mad.

Le Manoir is exceptional according to my friends who have been there (huh, some friends, they didn't take me). I agree, the stop over is heart stoppingly expensive. Take a tent and pitch it in the veg patch
![]() I wonder what would happen? Its such a problem when you want to eat somewhere out of taxi range, the cost becomes prohibitive. |

I went there for lunch last month and it was amazing, was £140 with wine and tip. You can save some money if you want to stop over by staying here:-
http://www.qhotels.co.uk/hotels/the-...l-breaks.shtml It's only down the road. Wish I'd done a bit more digging now. Mind you, our Paris trip is booked so we're going there a couple of weeks before his actual b'day, it's something to consider for my birthday later in the year though.

Petrus is fantastic.
Go for Lunch and have the set menu - a steal at £30 per head. |
