There is a very strong rumour that this is going to be the method for selecting the UKs entry to this years Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade. This post was made on a Eurovision website.


I wonder if any fans of the "Josephs" and "Marias" had heard anything about this and what your thoughts are on the concept. Remember it might still be a rumour as it has also been said that Big Brother's Nikki Grahame and Sheilas Wheels were also going to be entering but obviously not in a program of this format.

Daniel Boys mentioned that he and the other Josephs had been approached ... but that doesn't mean that will be how it ends up happening.

I did read this somewhere ages ago but heard nothing more. many of the boys are contracted into shows so can't see how they would get the time.

Our eurovision always becomes a laughing stock so would personally hate any of the Joe's ending up in it

If the songs are written by ALW and Gary Barlow then that will be an improvement on some we've had in the past I wonder if they're specially written or ones we already know?

BUT we have to remember it's a Vote for Your Neighbour contest (to quote Mr Wogan) and we don't have enough neighbours to vote for us...I would hate to see any of the Josephs or Marias being publicly embarrassed by a lack of votes even if they're brilliant...they've been there and done that with the ALW shows lol.

I wonder which 3 of each it would be? As twingle said, a lot of them are tied up in shows...which is where they should be of course

Craig and/or Keith could represent Scotland in the Eurovision Song Contest now because Scotland can enter separately from rest of the UK!

Really!?!? I hope they don't, it embarrassing enough when UK get 0 points, never mind Scotland getting 0 points too!

I'm sure they wouldn't . Maybe people would vote for Scotland if it was clearly separated from England - not sure if its the UK as a whole thats hated or just England

I think its all of Western Europe - Ireland doesn't get that many points these days either!

Thats true. Ireland usually have really good entry too.

Its a shame its like that . I think there's added resentment that Uk, France etc get straight through to the final, when going by votes, they should be booted out by the semi finals

I remember when Michael Ball was our entry and he came 2nd by one point!!

there's a very good reason why UK, France and I think its 3 other countries get through (can't remember which, though think Germany, Ireland do as well)- they're the ones who pay the majority of the cost so without them there would be no Eurovision - personally I think we should save our money. It was always very camp but the last few years the neighbour voting has made it a complete farce (although who can forget Turkey/Cyprus/Greece votes in the past)

Ireland don't get through automatically, they been knocked out in the semis a few times.

My eurovision addiction is starting to show - watching anyway, I'm not up on remembering who wins each year. I've been really disappointed with the political voting recently but keep watching in the hope it'll change.

Also, starting to worry about my knowledge of geography - half the countries I didn't think where in Europe!

They have a latin american song contest which is taken much more seriously - perhaps how ours was years ago. Well this country anyway! Mind you i love it because is so cringeworthy!!

That's because the daft viewers chose the completely wrong song for him - the song that came second in the 'Song for Europe' was a good strong ballad - the rocky song didn't suit him at all.

I remember hearing Philip Scofield say that he had voted several times for the ballad and so did I. I couldn't believe that the viewers had gone for what used to be classed as a "traditional" poppy song for someone like Michael, who was better known for strong ballads at that time!

Have to say I think this could be a big mistake for the boys - they seem to mostly be doing a good job of establishing themselves in the theatre/music world - this could definitely be a backward step.

As we have zero chance of winning unless we add an a to the end of our national name not sure if its a good move - its also seen as very naff. ]

Connie and Aoife I think end SOM in March. Abi's next job isn't known. Helena is still in South Pacific for some more months .Leanne and Sioban might do it? On the other hand Romanian Maria might get those East european votes.........

Whats ALW doing writing pop songs? There must be an angle there for him somewhere?

It's UK, France, Germany and Spain who automatically get through as they're the major contributors to the costs of funding the whole shebang.

No way should the Josephs or Maria's get involved in the Eurovision. They seem to be doing very nicely on their own without getting mixed up in it. I would hate to see any of them get ridiculed for taking part.

I am a big Eurovision fan but even I feel that it has really gone down hill in recent years.

Even if we had the best songwriter and the best singer in the contest - we would not get very far. Also the other countries hate us as we, along with Spain, Germany and France can never get relagated if we get poor votes. We all put the most money in to the contest so the other countries think why should we vote for them.
