which network for PAYG?
Guys I need your expert opinions. I text a lot....erm a heck of a lot, so I'm happy to use Orange's offer of 1000 texts a month if I top up by £30 in a month. Thing is though, I tend to call mobile numbers quite a bit. At the moment their tariff means I pay 15p per minute for them.
I was thinking of going to o2 as they'd give me unlimited texts for £30 a month and their tariff is 25ppm for the first 3 minutes then 5p the rest of the day. I was all ready to jump to o2 when I realised that rate only applies to landline and o2 number, not other networks. So what else is out there? If I text loads and want to keep call costs to other networks as low as I can, are there any other network offers out there to beat Orange? |

Just to clarify the bonus texts offer on Orange Speak Easy when topping up by £30/month is not 1000 bonus texts, it's unlimited. Have you checked out the Dolphin 15 Sim Only? 150 x-net mins a month, 300 texts and unlimited evening and weekend texts.

Talizman ring 0800 079 0435 and tell them you are currently on PAYG but want to leave as you have seen another networks offer (Quote the O2 one).
If you push hard enough you can get the Dolphin 35 which is 600 Xnet Mins and Unlimited Texts for £21.50. Bargain. |

I forgot to mention I'm a PAYG customer and want to stay that way - contracts don't interest me. So it needs to be a PAYG tariff.

Then for what you need as far as I'm aware Orange wins hands down.
£30 per month gives you Unlimited Texts and 15pm flat rate means at least you'll always know what you are paying. |

Virgin Mobile do a 300/300 (300 minutes and 300 texts each month) on a PAYG Sim offer for £10 per month, but you have to have another Virgin Service such as broadband or TV to be accepted.

If it is because you would otherwise spend way too much as you wouldn't realise then T-mobile's U-fix can help limit your spending. If it is because you don't like being tied down for 12 to 18 months, you can get sim only pay monthly tariffs that have no contract, just 30 days notice required. Once you start spending the kind of money that you are, contracts start becoming much better value for money, you can even get good phones - either keep them or sell them. T-Mobile offer Flext 35 for £30/month for 18 months. Give you a top phone for free e.g. N95 or LG Viewty, and you get £180 "credit" each month equivalent to 1800 texts or 900 minutes or any combination of the two. |

It may help if we can know why you want to be on PAYG rather than pay monthly.

Thanks, but I won't be going in to why I don't want a contract. It has to be PAYG.
If you don't want a contract why don't you condider a SIMO? |

I'm the same as you - I text constantly. I'm on O2 PAYG. If you put in £30 or more per month, you get unlimited texts. What about going onto www.pricerunner.co.uk. I have used that a few times and I'm sure there is a mobile phone section.

The SIMO do not have inclusive web browsing, so for £25 you may get 600 minutes, unlimited texts but then you have to buy web browsing on top of that. However with PAYG, I can top up £30 and use my credit to pay for the web, so for someone who uses just web and text, PAYG is still the better option.

Would you prefer a £10 note to a £50 note too?

Thank you. Ricardo did you get that?
Oh and the credit check is not as harsh either. |

I sure did. Don't recall you saying that you need it for data though. You said you needed it for texting. I am merely pointing out that SIMO gives you much better value for money.
Oh and the credit check is not as harsh either. Only, it's nothing to do with having a credit check. I realise that part of the requirement for working in phone shops is to decide what the customer wants without bothering to know their needs, but really, trust me when I say I know my own needs better than you do. I've stated a few times now that I want a PAYG suggestion. If I wanted a sim-only deal, I'd have asked about them. |

Value for money is not about opinion, it is about fact.
If you top up £30 a month as a PAYG customer you'd get unlimited texts and enough credit to make 200 mins of calls (200 x 15p/min = £30) If you had a £25 SIMO you'd get 600 minutes and unlimited texts. So for £5 a month LESS you'd get an extra 400 minutes. I can't see how that can't be seen as better value for money. |

As is usual for most mobile phone salesmen, you don't know my circumstances but have tried to make up my mind for me. You don't work for phones4u by any chance? That's usually their tactic.
I've made it clear what I want, for the right PAYG deal. If I wanted to know more about contract offers, I'd have asked. |

Yes I know that sometimes you get the pushy salesmen ala P4U, but sometimes customers do need a bit of direction in which way to travel. There's nothing wrong in trying to convert a PAYG into a PAYM, but the first no should be where you stop. After that you lose the customer due to them being annoyed. Give the customer what they want and need and they will come back for more. Glad you didn't generalise all mobile phone salesmen in that statement, and to be fair not all P4U will be like that either, there are very decent good salesmen out there in the industry too. |
