Obsolete Series Record schedule?
geebee.uk
14-02-2008
My wifes HUMAX box has a scheduled recording that appears to either have failed or waiting to reschedule (Stuck??).

There is an entry in the Recording Schedule list for "Mistresses" BBC 1 on 12/02 @ 21:00 - 22:00. (series)

There are recordings in the Recorded Programmes for:

12/02 20:02 - 20:59 Holby City BBC 1 (series)
12/02 21:02 - 22:00 Ladette to Lady ITV1 (series)

i.e the "Mistresses" programme didnt record.

So is the schedule "waiting" to find another time slot to set the recording again or has it failed and she should now delete the entry and resign herself to the fact that she has missed that episode?

I have also experienced this on another occasion where I scheduled a "Time Team" on More Four and after a few days I just deleted the entry as Im sure they will be repeated again.

Any thoughts?

TIA.

Glenn.

I think Mistresses has finished so everybody who had set it as series link will have the 12/02 episode in the schedule until they delete it or 13 weeks elapse. I can't offer an explanation of why it failed to record as my partner had the same set of recordings and they all worked. You can download Mistresses from BBC IPlayer web site for the next few days.

It failed to record for me too.

I've had the same problem, althought can't say for which programs it was. Seems to me when a series has ended the last scedual stays at the top of the list until you delete it. Not sure if this is intended or a bug.

I know when I had Never Mind the Buzzcocks on series record after last week's recording the scedual removed itself, even though their was the highlights episode last night which it didn't scedual to record.

It is intended. Because Freeview Playback does not have the concept of an end of series marker there is no way for the 9200 to know that a series has finished.

Surely Humax could have made some sort of icon or a different colour text or something to highlight this. Eg if scheduled timer is older than the current date/time?

Also why is it sometimes the schedule recording that is series linked just vanishes totally ? It's happened to us three times so far.

I think that is a worrying problem. Please could you and anyone else suffering from the same problem start a specific thread and post full details each time it happens. That way some common cause might emerge.

The schedule is sorted into chronlogical order, that is a useful improvement over recorders whose timers appear in slots in the order they were selected or programmed.
Yes you have to scroll down watching the date/time to find future events, but where else is the PVR to put past events pending finding the next episode in the EPG.

What I would have thought was sensible was to check to see if it was a past date in the schedule if so, change text to red or a different colour and place it at the bottom of the list.

That way it would still be there but "marked". Would not have thought that was hard to do?

I agree it wouldn't be hard but your suggestion would, in my view, makes things worse. Where they are now it is obvious that they are anomalous. There are three possible causes for them not being updated; the series has ended or the EPG hasn't updated or the series link data is incorrect. I don't mind hiding the first case but certainly not the other two cases.

I don't find this a problem. It lets me know that the box is still looking for the next transmission. It's useful when a series misses a week, such as over Christmas or when there's some big sports event on. It worked very well for me over Christmas with 2 series (can't remember which they were now but both on BBC). Also with one series on Channel 4 it highlighted that the series ID must have changed because it hadn't selected the next transmission that was in the EPG so I cancelled and rebooked. Given the finger trouble that most channels seem to be having at present I'd rather keep an eye on this info.

We'll also probably need it when the Olympics start to disrupt the schedules later in the year

It's also supposed to get auto deleted after 13 weeks if the item hasn't been picked up in the schedules in that time frame. However, I don't think anyone's actually been able to test this yet.

There's no need to change this functionality ... it obvious and clear what is happening.

The previous suggestions of change are change for changes sake.

The only problem I can see is that, over time, the visible list could get filled with "pending" series so we will have to scroll down to see what's actually scheduled.

I still think highlighting these in another colour - eg red would help - clear to see what is past and what is present.

I'd quite like it to be in light grey as a kind of 'it's sat here waiting in the background' type of way.

Now, where do I collect the 'Most useless post[1] February 2008' prize?

Mathew

P.S. It was actually a serious suggestion, but do concede it's rather futile (although you never know... someone from Humax looking for a promotion might be reading this in their lunchbreak...)

P.P.S. [1] That's post not 'thread', just in case anyone misinterprets what I meant!
