and are they likely to be better than my Samsung's rubbish inbuilt speakers?

Sorry for the dumb question - just finding it hard to understand which speakers will work, and which need an amp/what connections are needed.

I would like 2 wireless speakers as I don't want wires and speakers all over my living room - honestly not that bothered about surround sound and don't want a bass filled sound which annoys my neighbours. Also don't want to spend even more money after splashing out on an HDTV/Sky HD.

So that should pre empt the 'you really should spend more than £50 on speakers' comments

But if I'm better off sticking with the speakers I have, then please tell me!

Those speakers are not exactly wireless though. Not in the true sense of the word anyway. All they actually lack is a wire from speaker to telly. They still have a mains wire to supply power. And not only that but two mains connections, one for each speaker!

You will need some form of audio output on the back of the TV. Most common is a pair of phono connections which will need connecting to an amplifier to drive the speakers, or speakers with built in amplification.

If you just want a pair of stereo speakers to plug into the telly with the minimum of wires then I can recommend these...

Behringer MS16. Dirt cheap but sound surprisingly good. Just need a stereo phono lead to one speaker and mains. The second speaker connects to the powered one.

Not exactly wireless but only one extra mains supply to bother with. And you could just stand them either side of the screen (they are shielded so don't cause any problems with the screen) and hide the few wires behind the screen.

Your biggest problem however may be controlling the volume. if your Samsung is like my LG it will have a pair of phono sockets for audio out that are after the volume control. And in the menu is an option to mute the internal speakers. So I have my telly wired to the HiFi and use the volume control on the remote but hear the noise on the hifi speakers, not unlike what you are trying to acheive.

Thanks a lot for that - especially for pointing out the bits I'd failed to notice in the description

Will definitely have a look around for those speakers you linked to so thanks again.
