Sony RDR-HXD870 analog output

Hi Guys,
I have a Sony RDR-HXD870 with an analog aerial going into ANALOG AERIAL IN and an analog TV connected to ANALOG AERIAL OUT (as in the diagram on p18 of the manual).
How can I get the sound and picture from the DVD to appear on the TV?

Have you not connected a scart cable from the Sony to your Tv?

SCART lead between the two. Or if they both have it an HDMI lead.

However if your TV does not have a SCART socket then it might be difficult. Especially if any RF modulator the Sony has is turned off by default! I supose you could put a DVD in and start it playing then try tuning a spare preset on your TV and hope you find the output from the Sony.

But if the TV does have SCART (would have to be very old not to) then hook up a lead between the two. That will give you better picture than RF and stereo sound (if the TV is stereo).

Thanks for the replies, but the TV does not have Scart.
I've tried playing a DVD and then scanning with the TV but it does not find the DVD output. (However, it does find the terrestrial channels which are being passed on by the recorder.)
Does the recorder modulate the DVD output onto the Analog Output?

Oh dear. You have a major major problem I am afraid. According to the manual I have downloaded this machine has no RF modulator. In fact the manual states on page 14

"You cannot connect this recorder to a TV that does not have a SCART or video input jack"

So your only option, short of buying a new telly, may be either....

Connect via SCART to an old VCR that you may have lying around and use that as the RF modulator.
Or
Buy an external modulator such as this from Maplin

Many thanks chrisjr - I hadn't spotted that note (in a small font) on page 14 (of the 172 !!) of the manual.
And thanks for the pointer to the Maplin modulator. That looks like the way I'll have to go.

It's been a couple of years since any of the major manufacturers incorporated an RF Modulator in any DVDR.

Yes, why buy an HDD/DVDR and then watch it in mono sound with the worst possible quality you can?.

The RDR-HXD870 feeds the main TV via Scart, but there is a requirement to feed a TV in another room that only has a coax feed to it (from the room where the recorder is). Hence the need for a modulator.
