Any other London based posters enjoy eating out in London a lot? IF so where are your favourite places?

Hi mate, I posted elsewhere that I thought Chez Bruce was fantastic when I went there. Also ate at Bentley's recently and that was pretty good.

I love Le Montmarte, French bistro just off Upper St in Islington. Also, Balans in Old Compton St is fab but you often have to wait for a table.

If you like lebanese/morrocan, I highly recommend:

Al Hamra - Shepherd Market
Levant - Wigmore St

If you like tapas, you must try El Pirata in Mayfair. Lush.

I guess one good thing about London being so international is that you can eat great food from every culture in the world, eg great Indian in Southalll, great Portuguese in Stockwell, great Turkish in Dalston etc.

'Tis one of my best kept secrets but I love $ Grill Bar on Exmouth Market..... Its not so much for the food but they do the best cocktails

Also Yum Yums in Stoke Newington is fab for Thai food.

Sedir on Theberton Street does fab Turkish food, and for atmosphere I always enjoy Galipolli on Upper Street (they have 3 of them along the same road - each one a little different but equally as atmospheric)

Pierre Victoire off of Oxford Street is divine too

There a few gastro pubs that do amazing food to. The Union just off Farringdon Road is excellent and for homemade hamburgers I recommend The Islington Tap on Liverpool Road

There must be loads more - I'll get back to you OP!

I like to eat out

Haven't been there for ten years, but Sofra (serving Turkish cuisine) just off Oxford street was very nice. I've been addicted to hummus since!

El Pirata is fun!
There is a fun tapas in Madia Vale - Masion Bilbauo.
But can be hit or miss.

I like to take advantage of the set Lunch menus at starred places. Pertrus is only £30 per head. Boxwood £25 etc.

You can eat at some fantastic places for a fraction of the evening costs.

Oh and the Lindsay House is pants, just don't bother, go to Maze or pied a terre.

There are a fair few Italians nearby, although a fair few may not be up to much. There are a few top table deals on Italians nearby, although I haven't been to any of these myself:

been to the last one loads. It used to be lovely - a real treat - but it's gone downhill of late. The menu seriously needs updating too as it's had the same stuff on it for years. Quite expensive too for what you get. 2 courses with wine is about £90.

I like Miso's on Haymarket. Its a Japanese/Chinese noodle bar with huge portions for around £6.

This is a really nice friendly Italian round the back of Oxford street (oxford circus). I went in there one night after late shopping and the owners are so friendly. Good traditional food too.

Go to St Christopher's Place (just off Wigmore street). Lot's of great restaurants there.
Also Orngebathwater suggested a nice place on Wigmore street.

The best thing about Wigmore street is that it's not Oxford street!

Thanks for recommendations guys , Silly me I used to work in Wigmore Street a few years ago and it was up and coming then,When I go into town I always walk down Wigmore Street rather than Oxford Street to miss the crowds. Its been a while now so I would imagine they have some nice places now.

Can anyone recommend a good vegetarian restaurant in London? Either near Kensington or Covent Garden would be good? I'm going for a weekend trip soon and would love to eat somewhere a bit special. Thanks

been to Maze (if you mean the Gordon Ramsay one) and it was amazing.
I went soon after it opened. We could only get a table at 7.30 on the condition we vacated the table at 9.30. As 9.30 was approaching we had not quite finished and the Head Waiter came and asked if we would like a tour of the kitchen and our coffee at the bar (a cool way to get us up from the table).

The kitchen was in the middle of a service so more interesting than the other times I have been given the guided tour in places which is always towards the end of the evening.

Yep, it is fantastic. I go a fair bit as it is near my office. Closed at the moment though for re-furb. Boo!

I like the way it can be as expensive as you like or cheaper for a light lunch. Rubarb mules are so very good.

Anyone been to La Troumpete since it got a star? Have been a while before, thought it was a bit so - so.
