My partner is thinking of getting a new contract, but is happy with her current phone, so i said id have her new phone and she just uses the contract sim card.
Can anyone recommend me a decent new phone which would be free - and has to be o2?

I like the look of the Viewty as i have seen it being customized to look like the iphone? Obviously the iphone is out of the question though as im not paying for one.
N95 for its GPS looks appealing, but i was put off the N73 because it lacked simple things like screensavers, animated backgrounds, video screensavers etc.

Does anyone know if the Viewty is fully customizable, as in mp3 tones, screensavers etc?

There are loads of animated screensavers to put on the N95.

Can you select any .gif file or a video taken with the camera as a screensaver?

i have the n95 and is fully customisable more so than the viewty but both are very good phones.

ive had mine 3 months and am gonna upgrade as soon as poss prob back to the n95!

mine came from orange and after a day it had dust trapped under screen, rang orange not their problem (fair enough) rang lg not their problem oh and they apparently had no spare parts so it basically looks crap! and there are quite a few things i personally find annoying about the phone.

my opinion but having had an n95 and viewty id go back to the n95 now!

That's a real shame, I remember how enthusiastic you were about the phone initially. With regards to upgrading, unless you are a in Band 5 you will have to wait till the last 3 months of your contract.

I've got a viewty and it's a cool phone. But the software packaged with it is a bitch. It connects the phone to the pc and then when you try and copy anything over it immediately disconnects. What's even more annoying, when installed on my other pc, which is near identical to the main one, it works fine.

I love my N95, finding out new things about it everyday. Now receive my webmail and gmail through it and synchronise my google calendar. Don't know anything about the Viewty though. My camera and camcorder are becoming obselete!

im band 5 heavy user, any ideas how much id be looking at for an n95 ricardo? i also want more messages so need to add some sort of a bundle!

Upgrade rules changed on the 4th. Band 5 users can upgrade early (there are some exceptions) subject to an upgrade fee. On top of that fee the N95 will cost £49.99.

I think you guys have sold me to the N95 - but im gonna wait until i can get it for free on a £35 a month line rental. Cheapest i can find is £40 which only includes 500 or 600 mins.

ok mate, i know theyve changed but is it still similar? i mean i used to be able to upgrade after 4 months for £50 but my bills have been higher recently.

have they radicaly changed the rules? i cant see how it hurts them personally as were always signing up to another 12/18 months thats my biggest plus with orange and their cust service

I wouldnt bother personally, the N95 is very bulky.

Don't bother using the software. Just transfer it.

Answering the original questions, you can customise most things for the Viewty, wallpapers, ringtones, but not screensavers. Because it just locks. And you can't download themes. (yet....)

For the ladies out there, Orange is awaiting stock for the purple LG Viewty which will be Orange exclusive.

I expect this to be very popular such as the Samsung U600was, which is no doubt why Orange are also launching the purple G600 as an exclusive!

I just read about this, and that it only currently has 3 themes available. But i seen a video on youtube of someone who has managed to make the Viewty look and act like an iPhone, even has the little slider to unlock the phone. Another thing i like about this phone is the fancy drag and drop system of the touch screen with things like pictures etc. Very nice looking phone indeed.

As i said though, i think im leaning towards the N95 more because of the GPS, ngage games and camera. The only thing that put me off this like i said is the customizing options - of what i recall, you cant set .swf, .gifs or anything as screensavers, cant have animated themes and have to stick with the awful clock as a screensaver.
If i do go for this one though, im only gonna get the 8gb model and i really dont like the original.

You certainly can set swf files as screensavers.

When I was comparing, the n95 just looked so big and I liked the sleek looks of the viewty. I saw someone using it on the train t'other day and was impressed by the UI.

Check carefully with the different networks and retailers as some places N95 is more expensive than viewty, and for some others it's the other way around.

Yea, there are people creating a program that will make it possible to make your own themes. And it is possible at the moment, but unless you are a flash whiz I wouldn't recommend it!
