What do you think Britain will be like in 10 years time?

Will teenage yobs still roam the streets?

Will people still be shopping on the High Street or will the Internet have completely taken over?

Will robots be everywhere - guiding cars along roads, acting as bouncers in pubs and clubs etc?

Will we still have loads of CCTV cameras watching our every move?

CCTV cameras do not work. The ones in my high street are not operating. I know this as they are short staffed. Plus to add to my suspicions they were unable to locate a thief carrying a wicker basket with an easter egg in it. You would have thought a person like that would stick out like a new pin in a pin cushion!

It will be 2018 and society will be worse off if personal freedom keep going the way they are.

Will the Russians have pulled the plug on our gas supplies and we're all huddled around our PCs trying to keep warm? But, seriously, the government's laid back attitude to UK power in 10 to 20 years time does worry me.

I absolutely dread to think what Britain will be like in 10 years time, absolutely dread to think. It just seems like everything is getting worse and worse as the years go by. I'm not saying it never went on before the year 2000, but, I never heard of things being mentioned on the news until the last 6 years. I know there's always been chaos in places, but, I just can't beleive all the stabbings and what have you that's taking place, according to the news anyway. Something tells me that life, when I'm an old man in this world is not going to be very nice......unless a new Government comes in and does a real good shake up, or, unless this government does something drastic to restore my faith in them. I have always been a loyal Labour supporter, but, they are seriously testing my confidence in them right now.

You're not wrong there.

I can't help but think things have gone in a wierd direction these last 5 years or so. I hate to think what Britain will be like in 2018...pretty difficult to lead a healthy life in I would imagine.

* The Conservative party will have formed the English government after a general election following the break-up of the United Kingdom during Gordon Brown's tenure as PM, having been voted back in 2009/10 with the smallest majority ever under "New Labour". Alternatively, David Cameron will be PM in 2009 and people soon realise they made a mistake but the cycle of voter apathy of the 2000's continues in the 2010's after the blip of the 2009 election because no-one wants to let Labour back in. And because the economy is on the up again after the recession during Brown's final term.

* Smoking will become something that is generally seen as socially unacceptable.

* There will be some form of insurance-based or point-of-treatment payment for healthcare - perhaps only in extreme circumstances (e.g. expensive cancer drugs) but it will begin in some form nonetheless.

*The age of retirement will be increased to 70 for both sexes.

*There will have been race riots in several of the more ethnically diverse British cities and one or two BNP MPs.

*There will be a volume tax on refuse and compulsory recycling.

*There will be several new nuclear power stations under construction.

*Coalition forces will have been out of Iraq for about five years; there will still be regular sectarian violence and insurgency there.

* Northern Ireland will be enjoying continued peaceful coexistence and prosperity - house prices in Belfast will have skyrocketed while there will be a moderate fall in house prices on the mainland.

*People in London will still be complaining about the impact of the Olympics, which was several times over budget and failed to live up to its expectations in terms of regeneration etc.

*Petrol will be more expensive, but there will be some ethanol-fuelled cars on the roads, although much of the fuel will be imported.

*New houses will by law have to incorporate solar roof panels and wind turbines.

*Rural "Locals" fed up of their house prices skyrocketing beyond reach by wealthy home counties and London types buying second homes etc begin campaigns of intimidation and harrassment against those homebuyers, a few protest marches and near riots pale in significance when extremists begin firebombing holiday homes, in some cases not even checking the properties were empty....

*After the government withdrew on certain contentious aspects of the enforcement tribunal, namely on a bailiff's right of entry and "restraining" they quietly sneak them back in well hidden among other acts. Due to this, after the first few bailiffs are murdered or seriously injured by homeowners/residents defending their property many quit, those left require several police officers permanently present when visiting property, leading to major problems as overworked and underpaid police officers, many themselves with serious debts refuse to support the bailiffs.

*Tony Blair is dead. Cherie Blair keeps appearing on TV and fighting for endless inquests to prove her husband was murdered, possibly by MI5 or the CIA.

*ID cards in the UK will have been scrapped due to a limited amount of civil disobedience and mostly after several technological blunders. However, biometric passports, driving licenses etc. will be a way of life across Europe. There are increasing moves to make debit and credit cards biometric, moving towards a cashless society.

*Vaccines against AIDS and most forms of cancer will have been developed but are still inaccessible due to their huge expense.

*Big Brother will still be on air in the UK, with ratings skyrocketing after a murder is committed live on TV.

*Physical entertainment media (CDs, DVDs) will be almost totally displaced by commercially available computerised downloads. Both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will have the same status as Betamax.

*The UK will face a major skills shortage crisis due to mass emigration. Doctors, teachers, graduates etc. will be leaving the UK in record numbers. Most migrating Britons will receive a mixed reaction from their new home countries as career "refugees".

*Doctor Who will have been controversially cancelled, and replaced by the BBC bringing back Eldorado.

*I will no longer be living in the UK.

Will teenage yobs still roam the streets? Yes but they will be 20 year old yobs and a new breed of teenage yobs will be on the streets twice as bad.

Will people still be shopping on the High Street or will the Internet have completely taken over? - The internet will probably take over cos everyone will be too scared to go out because the thugs and yobs will dominate the UK.

Will robots be everywhere - guiding cars along roads, acting as bouncers in pubs and clubs etc? I doubt that as the yobs will have smashed them all and filmed it on their phones.

Will we still have loads of CCTV cameras watching our every move? - does it matter? They dont work anyway CCTV is crap.

Worked well enough when they played a massive role in identifying and convicting a rapist/ attempted murderer here.

all of the oldstyle "legendary" actors, singers, entertainers, will be gone, and won't be replaced.

I can't think of any of the modern ones who will pass into such legend.

half of England and Wales will be underwater and most infrastructure destroyed in the aftermath of the 2012 pole shift

It's true i read it on the internet - it's gotta be true isn't it ?

It is now not worth posting after this inconsiderate fella posted this brilliant piece of writing.

The single best post I have ever read on here. Well done, apart from Eldorado!

I second that, I think a lot of what you say may well come to pass.

However, and I hope I am wrong, about the olympics, I think in ten years time we will still be holding a few minutes silence for all the sould whoo perished in our own fullscale version of 9.11 during these olympics. Its got to be a huge target.
