“The Watcher: No strike might mean less 'Big Brother'
The weirdest season of a weird show could be cut short to make way for May sweeps fare.

The earliest and weirdest season of "Big Brother" might also turn out to be the shortest.
Season nine, which began this week, was hauled out of its usual summer slot to help fill out the strike-potholed wreck of CBS's winter schedule.
Now that the strike is settled, the three-nights-a-week "Big Brother" might be done in less than two months, clearing the May sweeps calendar for CBS's scripted heavyweights.
How would that work? It's all down to the "twist." The subtitle for this season is "'Til Death Do Us Part"; the 16 Houseguests will be paired up for sleeping arrangements, competitions – and eliminations.
That means it would only take six elimination rounds and a final vote to take care of the entire season.
Of course, if "Big Brother" does well in the ratings, the pairs could be broken up and the season could be extended. CBS isn't tipping its hand yet.
The network said this week that it would have new episodes of many shows ready to go by early April, but none would require "Big Brother" to vacate the schedule.
Just expect the unexpected.”

It makes perfect sense with regards to why CBS have chosen this twist where the HG's pair up. They can have them evicted as pairs and keep the season short, or split them up to have it run the course.
