Papa Johns pizzas - any good?

Noticed that one has opened nearby. They claim to be America's Number One. Having eaten pizza in New York I know how good American pizzas can be but suspect these are more like your typical greasy cardboard jobs.

Anyone like them?

I love them they are not greasy like most takeaway pizzas. Only way you'll know though is if you try them. Most people here will probably tell you how crap they are like they do everything else

Well we did try them yesterday evening. Ordered online, everything went smoothly, pizzas arrived promptly.

Good points: swift delivery, good quality bases (both regular and thin), evenly cooked to a nice golden brown and not oily.

Bad points: small choice of vegetarian toppings and terrible choice of ready-to-order veggie pizzas; toppings weren't generous, sauce didn't have much flavour. Supplied with some weird garlicky gunk in a plastic container, with no obvious purpose. Very expensive.

Bottom line: good quality let down by boring toppings and overpriced for the market they're aiming at.

But why don't they do aubergines, courgettes, spinach, egg, etc? To justify £12-ish per pizza you have to be in Pizza Express territory, not leaflet-through-door greasy cheese land.

They are nice, but I would never pay full price, the same as I never pay full price for Domino's or any other delivery.

I agree entirely.

I'm not a great fan of Papa Johns, but am a recent re-convert to Pizza Hut - reason being, they do Continental style crust bases, and you can have half cheese - thus making a very nice Pizza where you can actually taste the tomato.

I once ate one and puked it in the sink soon after

Are you sure it wasn't the 14 cans of Stella you had beforehand?

Love papa john's pizzas better than all the others, ours always come with green chilli's on the side , oh and the dip is to dunk your crust in.

Nah I think I had some chilli Real McCoys before and my mate made me laugh after eating the pizza and thus leading to a mess in the sink.

Papa Johns never seems to settle right with me...always leaves me feeling full for the next day or so.

Ah, now I really like coleslaw to have with my crust but I couldn't find coleslaw on the Papa John's menu. The other thing they don't do is proper garlic bread - the stuff that came with our order was like wholemeal pitta with garlic on.

The garlic gunk tasted evil and, mysteriously, had no list of ingredients. I suspect it's not very healthy.
