Who votes? How are the winners chosen for each category? Muse always win best live act at awards shows.

I think it's the panels who choose for each category, aside from:

- Best Single (which you can still vote for)
- Breakthrough
- Live Act

Crappy music or not, I'll probably watch a bit on Wednesday.

Its a boring show for boring musicians who make boring music.

You obviously haven't seen TT live - they are fab so could be a contender. Even Sharon O said they were brilliant

No Led Zeppelin in 'the best live act' category?

Who actually decides who these categories are made up of? Simon Cowell or somebody?

I'm guessing the winners will be... (not neccessarily what I want)

British Male Solo Artist - Mika

British Female Solo Artist - Leona Lewis

British Group - Take That/Arctic Monkeys

British Album - Mark Ronson - Version

British Breakthrough Act - Klaxons

British Live Act - Take That

British Single - Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love/ Take That - Shine

International Male Solo Artist - Kanye West

International Female Solo Artist - Rihanna

International Group - Foo Fighters

International Album - Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace

I really think Take That deserve the Best Live Act award. They've done 2 fantastic live shows in the last 2 years, and they've proven it is possible for Pop Bands to put on decent shows without having to mime.

I just found this article about how they picked the Best Live Act Nominees. Its quite interesting.

Looks like Led Zepplin performed too late to be eligible.

Quote:
“The voting panel for the British Live Act shortlist at The BRITs is made up of a number of music industry tastemakers. The BPI invite people from all spheres of the music world, journalists, radio presenters and booking agents – to name but a few. These are the people who consume music constantly, watch many gigs each night and are tirelessly on the look out for the hottest new thing.

This year’s panel deliberated and debated over who should be shortlisted for the British Live Award at The BRITs.

The main rule for the panel is that a band/artist has to have performed within the eligibility period set out by the BPI.

Led Zeppelin missed out on a nomination even though the critics applauded their triumphant comeback show at London’s O2 Arena. The panel could not fail to recognise that this was one of the best gigs of 2007 – those who had been lucky enough to attend that is – some of them even described it as the best gig of their lives so far.

It was an unanimous decision that Take That and Arctic Monkeys should be placed straight onto the nominations list – who can argue with Take That’s awesome string of sold out dates both in 2006 and 2007. Renowned for their energetic and invigorating sets, Take That proved themselves to be one of the UK’s best and most loved live bands. As for Arctic Monkeys, their self-curated one-day festival at the Lancashire County Cricket Ground exceeded even their expectations as did their Alexandra Palace date – a show the panel were all raving about.

Twice British Live Act winners Muse were eligible once again this year, with their Wembley dates thrusting them back into the live limelight. It was decided that Muse provides a truly great live experience and all were in agreement that to leave them out of the running would be a travesty.

Next up were the young guns.

Biffy Clyro was the first up for discussion. Their album Puzzle hit the top spot in Summer 2007 after the group constantly toured small venues and perfected their gig experience. The panel decided that Biffy’s live show will continue to go from strength to strength and the band, whilst not nominated this year would remain strong contenders for 2009.

Newton Faulkner was praised by a number of the Live Panel for his intimate, soulful live shows. It was decided that this relatively new performer would only get better and better in the coming year and that he would be a serious contender for next year’s BRITs.

Klaxons were a name that had been bandied about during the day’s conversations. A band that has inspired everything from fashion and art to the return of the glowstick in the past year, it was the panel reminiscing about standout festival performances that swung it for them. A place was reserved for Klaxons on the final nominations list.

The final debate – Kaisers or Bloc Party, on this the panel was pretty much split but there was no denying that Kaiser Chiefs were the overall winners. Bloc Party were given a special mention for being such strong contenders.

I watch the Brits every year in the hope of something controversial happening .

The famous Jarvis Cocker incident from years ago was a classic. Perhaps Ozzy will return to his wildways & bit the head off some bat (Hmm Kate Nash is there perhaps her annoying voice could be on the hitlist ).

I always watch but I think this is the first year where I'm actually interested, I won't be watching just out of habit. Winehouse, Leona, and Rihanna are the ones I'm looking out for tomorrow, can't remember who else is performing.

Same! I'm actually supporting people this year so it's more interesting as I'll be watching hoping they win.

Oh please! Everyone knows Muse are the most amazing live band around at the moment. Certainly not that little porker barlow and his dancing chimpanzees.

Not even going to bother arguing but Gary Barlow is far from fat!! I wouldn't say anything like that about Muse...well maybe I would if I knew anything about them

That may have been true about 15 years ago but did you actually go to one of Take That’s shows last year? I did and it was superb, a fantastic show.

To be honest I don’t know much about Muse to compare them but is having (as you put it) ‘a tonne of rock n' roll attitude’ an essential trait of a good live performance?
