Nokia charger question

Hello!

My partner bought a Nokia 2610 today, and we've got home and the charger doesn't seem to be working. It's a new lighter charger, unlike the old heavy-as-bricks Nokia chargers. Obviously, we will take this back to the shop but this won't be until Monday - does anyone know if an older charger would be compatible, as we have several spares in the house! I've tried contacting the Orange store, but after getting cut off, I don't seem to be able to speak to anyone except an answerphone!

hope someone can help!
Thanks very much

If it fits it will be fine, they just charge at different speeds

There will be a label on the underside of the charger. Check the OUTPUT ratings. The most important being voltage. The voltage on the old charger must match the voltage on the new charger.

If it is lower then chances are it won't work at all. If it is higher then you risk damaging the phone. So plugging a 12V charger into a phone designed for 6V for example is never a good idea!

Then your only worry is the plug. Two problems there, physical size and polarity. The charger will have a diagram showing which terminal is positive and which negative. Just make sure they are the same. Obviously if the plugs are different sizes all the above is pretty academic as you won't be able to plug the charger in anyway!

Im having a random problem with my nokia charger at the moment.

If I plug it into the wall it charges the phone fine, but if I plug it into the extension socket - 4 plugs in a strip, so you can have more things plugged in - it just will not charge.

The extenion lead is plugged into the exact same plug as when I plug the mobile into the wall.

Its not the extension socket because thats powering this laptop and a light (when its on) it just seems to be the mobile phone charger that wont work.

Gawd knows!
