When i first got the phone it was on Vodafone but now its o2. Surely there must be a way around this. This must be frustrating. Unfortunately, there are some errors and omissions in your question which make it difficult to give you a full answer.

How did your friends send the clip to your handset? (MMS, Bluetooth, email etc)
There is no such thing as a "wav file 3gp"? Have a look the file properties to find out the type.
Which software did you download? Was it PC Suite or MMS settings.

The most common cause of this is that the videos are in a format your phone doesn't understand. If they were sent direct from another, the person needs to make sure they use "Standard" or "MMS" format to ensure compatibility with other phones.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like you have as said an unknown format for the phone (WAV?). It must be 3Gp to play on the S/E phones.

Well it was sent as mms and the file i recieved was a 3gp arr. As i have said when i tried to view the file i got sound and no video. I also asked my brother to send me a video he also has a Sony ericcson phone and i got the same result. The file comes through as a wav file. Im just wondering if this is due to the fact that i changed from vodafone to o2. When i changed from vodafone to o2 i got the code of vodafone and payed the money. So where the problem lays god knows.

It wont make a difference what network your on, as to what content can be played on the phone.
I dont think the K800 is capable of playing .wav files, but certainly should be able to play .3gp, as this is standard video clip format for mobile phones, so i dont understand why your phone wont play it. Have you tried updating the software of your phone from the SonyEricsson website? It might fix the fault, even if you have latest software, re-install it.

Now if you were sent a .mp4, and you could only hear the sound but not get the video, it would be obvious what the problem was.... but yours is very strange to say the least!

Wav is just a sound file, so he must have sent a sound only file. (There is no way the phone can convert file formats when sending). You say you also received a 3GP arr file. Did you mean a 3GP amr file? This is also a sound only file, so would explain why you only get sound.

I'm beginning to wonder if people are sending you sound files on purpose.

Or the file could be corrupt.

I've noticed that videos formated in the wrong resolution for my phone sometimes only play sound and no picture. Could that be the problem?

You may need to convert the file to a mobile format. This article may help but it is for a different phone. http://myw960i.blogspot.com/2008/02/...-my-w960i.html
