These spreads don't come close to real butter in my opinion. My mother is constantly bragging about using real butter, Yet the stuff she uses comes in a foil wrapper like real butter but in small writting says "Vegetable Spread" There is nothing as nice as getting up in the morning to toast and a generous layer of real butter.

So what do you prefer, Butter or one of these spreads like Flora?

I would rather have real butter but I would just go silly and spread it far too thickly, and use loads for cooking, so I don't even buy it now just flora, which is not so tasty and I use it sensibly.

The spreads. Butter has always been too rich & sickly for my liking.

You cant beat it can you Dont like the taste of any of the spreads out there and always use butter. Also mashed and jacket potato wouldnt be quite the same without a large knob of real butter.

Lurpak spreadable For years I used real butter like Anchor, but now I found the delicious Lurpak and is the tastiest addition to a piece of bread and toast I have ever come across.

I only use Flora Diet or Flora light now. When I'm having a pub dinner with a jacket potato they serve regular butter with that and it just seems too rich for me ugh.

I prefer the taste of real butter but I use spreads as they are easier to use and you don't have to wait for the butter to melt a bit.

I've just looked in the fridge and realised I have 4 separate spreads!
Real, unsalted butter for mash, fried eggs. omelets, fish etc.
Real, unsalted, spreadable butter for putting on bread.
Benecol for husband to put on bread.
Stork for baking.

There are some things that just would not taste right without butter - crumpets and hot cross buns, just to name 2!

Isn't it diet Flora that is unsuitable for Vegetarians? It was last time I checked!

You can buy insulated butter dishes, I bought one from Lakeland and you can leave the butter out of the fridge and it stays nice and firm but spreadable.

For me, nothing comes close to the taste of Clover. I have been using it virtually since it came out, which must be about 25 years I reckon? I have tried other types of spread and spreadable butter over the years, but always just the one tub, and sometimes ended up chucking it. How people can use Flora or I Can't Believe it's Not Butter, Utterly Butterly or whatever is beyond me, it all tastes like margarine or lard to me. Vile.

Spreads are dyed yellow, the natural colour is black, and are similar in structure to plastic, so I avoid.

I didn't realise it until I actually bought real butter but I don't think I actually like the taste of it. Sure it's far superior in baking imo but for spreading I find it just a bit too strong.

Lurpack spreadable, not sure which you'd count that as!

Butter every time. Most of the spreads are totally disgusting and shouldn't be allowed. My aunt only eats Flora lite. It's vile.

I wish I could eat real butter! I have been using low fat spread for about ten, fifteen years or so for health reasons. In the last year I have been trying not to even have that on my sandwiches!
