New car means old phone :-(
Hey guys,
Just brought a new car today with an in-built bluetooth system. Thing is, it will only work with older handsets ![]() When I say older I mean 6230i, k750i, 6233. So the n95 has to be ditched and I have ordered a 6230i. Bit gutted, that phone is 3 or more years old!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Just thought I would vent my frustration here! Ooops |

Why won't it work with newer phones? Sounds a bit silly to me.
Won't the N95 ever be compatible? And what does the car need/use Bluetooth for exactly!? |

Why do you need a cable?
I've never seen a bluetoothed car that wouldn't work with any bluetooth phone. Especially an N95 which supports the remote SIM profile. Have you tried it? Which car is it? |

I think I can see what's happened here. The garage are working from an old list of compatible phones.
I would try your N95. |

It allows the car kit to access your contacts and to show battery and signal strength meters. It can also show message received etc.

To be honest the list of phones only exists to show which ones they've actually bothered testing and certified. It doesn't mean any other phone doesn't work.
For example, I work in IT but deal with Fleet Management a lot, I know that Audi and Mercedes can both use the Nokia 6233 (new model) but it's not on the approved list. Don't bother with the cradle if you plan to charge your phone overnight like most people. The whole point of bluetooth is you don't need a silly cradle and can just stash the phone in the door pocket or glovebox. |

That's a bit blunt but echoes my thoughts. My brother uses an N95 in the way you describe. Works beautifully.

Well it looks like I was rather hasty in ordering the new old phone + cradle....
Picked the car up yesterday and got it to talk to the n95 briefly but then it would only accept incoming calls and I could not make any outgoing calls!!! I'm sure there is a solution somewhere on the net though.... In relation to the cradle, I thought that I needed that so the car would read the phonebook but obviously not ![]() £80 wasted !!!! |

You need to set the phone to allow calls to be initiated from Bluetooth.

Also make sure you tell the N95 that the connection to your car is "Trusted" so it will it to connect automatically - otherwise you may get a message pop up saying "Allow connection to BMW?" (or similar) which you'll not notice.
(Most of our users don't notice this and while the phone and car will be happy the first time you pair it they can't work out why it doesnt' work the next day). |

I have this situation in my Peugeot 308.
My Sony Ericsson k800i worked perfectly with the bluetooth car kit, synced the phone book etc. My N95 still works, and I can make and receive calls, but the phone book will not sync with the car kit. The N95 should work, but you may not have the full functionality of the car kit |

The N95 will accept the connection everytime I get in the car however I cannot make outgoing calls using the N95, whether connected or not.
I have to turn the phone off and then on again to even make a call using the handset. The 6230i arrived today and works like a dream!! Will have to see how it goes...... |
