Im looking to be getting a Nokia N95 8gb soon, but as good as the apps on the phone sounds, do these actually cost anything to use?
I wont be paying for any bundles, and will just probably have a standard free minutes and text contract - so any additional costs, i wont bother using these applications, but id like to know in advance, and not after receiving a huge bill like i once did for using an internet browser on a mobile.

The main things i would like to know about is the GPS and MSN Messenger. I aslo have wireless broadband in the house, but not sure how this works with phones....does it mean i jump on my Virgin internet, or do you still pay (o2)?

Thanks guys!

The turn by turn instructions will cost you. From memory it's about £43 for a 3 year licence. I think it's great. You will also probably incur some data costs as you load up the mapping function in order to help the phone get a satellite fix.

ITs still better and cheaper to get a real sat nav then? lol

The GPS was the biggest seller for me on the phone, but if you have to pay... i dont know.

Dont know about £40, but maybe £60.

I think a cheaper contract with a different phone, and buying a sat nav might have to do.. or might just get one with a free sat nav

I do like the motion sensitivity on the phone though.. why does everything these days have to cost extra!?

I've got the n95 8gb, you do have to pay the 3year amount, but you don't need the data activated for it to work, mine's turned off and it works fine for me!

I was going to use the sat nav feature on my N95 but decided to buy a Tom Tom One - bigger screen and one off cost of £120. Very happy with it. Also extremely happy with the phone!

I downloaded google.com/gmm
which gives me map showing my location based on google maps and the location to local masts.

It can connect to a bluetooth gps. It allows you to search for locations and get drrections. I am not sure it speaks the directions though.
Cracking utility but uses up your gprs allowance @ 60-70 kb a view. I am running it on a htc s620

Surely you have to pay to get updates (after a certain time) for a standalone Sat Nav? Are there any that offer free lifetime updates?

My htc s620 leaps to the wi-fi first, so if the wi-fi icon shows a circle around the top of the mast then I can surf for free via wi-fi. If I am conected via the charging usb cable, I get broadband through that too. Out in the street If there is an unsecured network or a fon shared network I can surf there too.
Secured networks appear asking me for the wap key. There is one at a mates house and whilst he went to the loo I noted down the wap key number LOL (I am going to blag a glass of water at strategic houses and see if I can aquire wap keys there too) (Joke)

If not the "G" in a square appears to show I am on GPRS (and would be paying).
