The DVDR arrived at abut 2pm this afternoon! Good going wasn't it? Especially as we are on the Isle of Wight.

That is excellent service, Gill.

All you require now is a very stiff drink while you battle to understand the instruction manual . . .

Once you have mastered that, I am sure you will enjoy your EX77. Good luck!

For the benefit of anyone else considering buying the EX77: Currys have a useful promotion at present. They will price match, including Amazon, and also deduct 10 per cent of the difference.

So, assuming the figures above are accurate and that Currys include DVDRs in their price match offer, you would pay them £209 less £4 = £205, with the benefit of dealing with a local store rather than distance buying.

Currys will probably wish to see a printout of Amazon's web page showing their price and that they have the machine in stock.

If this offer works, £205 for an EX77 from a High Street store is a good deal at present.

Now you tell me!

Just a small query. If I plug in my VCR into AV2 of the Panny can I record from the VCR to the DVDR?

Yes, Scart from AV2 to TV. Then follow page 24 (without, obviously, connecting the audio-visual cables).

The consensus is that it is preferable to record from VCR to HDD, rather than to disc. Once your recording is on the hard disc drive, you can edit it etc before (if you wish) copying it from HDD to disc.

(Sorry about the late price tip- I only saw the Currys offer yesterday, too late for you.)

Apologies, everyone!

I posted the above based on information from a usually reliable source.

However, he has just called to say he got it wrong! It is NOT Currys but PCWorld who are doing this price match offer - which is not much use if you want a DVDR.

I am extremely sorry for this misinformation, which was posted in good faith.

Sackcloth and ashes time . . .

Thanks John. I did go into PC World earlier and Curry's which are next door to each other (almost). Obviously, as you say, PC World don't have them although they do have HDDs.

I have browsed the manual but will read it thoroughly before attempting to copy a tape.

This is all because I couldn't copy from tapes and everything has escalated since then!

I have done as you suggest and have now managed to copy a tape from VCR to HDD without any problem at all. I am so glad I bought this machine.

I saw a message which gave a link to a program for editing with the camcorder which would work with the Panasonic DVDR as well. I cannot find it now. Can somebody let me know what it was? Thanks.

Thanks for that. The only problem is that the password they give doesn't work! Perhaps it's been used too much!

Are you sure?

That link has been there a long time with many successful downloads... Someone successfully installed just a matter of days back.

Did you maybe copy and paste an additional space inadvertently?

I don't think so but I will check again. Thanks for replying.

Gavtech, I didn't put in a company name when I tried to register. I have managed to download the program now and it looks as though it will be fine. Thanks very much.

However the second link you mentioned is unavailable!

I did a deep search for another location where I knew the second download once was... but unfortunately that link has also died.

But it is really of no importance provided you have the first one.
The update simply added a different skin... with no improvement in functionality.

Thanks. I am now trying to read the on line manual. I will print out the relevant pages.

I have tried to do some editing on this program but the discs appear to be protected somehow (not on the program) I cannot delete any part of the footage. Can somebody PM with a solution?

Hi All,
I've got a DMR EX77EB & a TX 32LXD70

A few people on this thread have said that you can record one channel on the DMR whilst watching another.

Am I right in assuming then (and sorry if this is elementary!) that as the DMR has only 1 tuner what I need to do is somehow split the arial so that it feeds the DMR and the TX (currently it feeds only the DMR).

In which case what is the best way to do this 'split'? I always thought that such a split could degrade the freeview signal?

thanks for any thoughts/recommendations.

Hi Joel

Your assumption is correct that you need to use your TV's tuner to watch another channel.

The aerial is not split. It can be done, but is inadvisable as it more than halves the signal to each device.

The conventional and much simpler method is to daisy chain the devices... and cables will have been supplied to allow you to do this.

The route is: Incoming aerial to aerial input of the DVDR [ as now ] , Then a link cable from the Aerial Out connection of the DVDR to the TV aerial IN connection.

It is as simple as that. You will require one standard UHF flylead which has one male and one female standard coax connectors. [ Supplied with the DVDR ] .

Good luck.

ah! thanks a lot gavtech!

I had the funny feeling that I was missing something obvious and that splitting the aerial cable was overkill.

Amazingly I've found the cables and so will give this a go now.

Joel
