Vodafone PAYG problem
My daughter has a Sony Erricson Z310i - vodafone branded PAYG. She had new for christmas and has been using her old vodafone sim card in it instead of the one supplied without problem until now. She switched it on this morning to find a message saying "PUK blocked. Contact operator" All phone functions are disabled. I can't try her other vodafone sim as it's at her mum's house and she's away. No attempts have been made to enter any pin codes of any description so I don't see how the puk can be blocked. Any ideas?

Very strange, I can only think it is a faulty SIM. For the PUK to be blocked, the PIN would have had to be entered incorrectly several times and then PUK entered incorrectly as well.

After waiting in a queue for 40 minutes (thank goodness for saynoto0870.com - I was calling on an 0808 number) I spoke to someone at vodafone who *insisted* that the pin and subsequently the puk had been entered incorrectly to cause this lockup, which is irreversable. My daughter is adamant that neither she nor anyone else has done anything with pins or puks. However, they say that they can transfer the number and existing credit another sim, so we'll use the one which came with the new phone.

I have to admit, if I was a betting man I would bet on the PIN and PUK being entered incorrectly. For a fault to occur that was so severe it corrupted the SIM, but only the part that counts PIN attempts and when the phone was off as well, is very unlikely (but not entirely impossible).
