Problem with Media e-Linker
Thebenster
19-02-2008
I have connected my 9200-T to my PC via USB and opened Media e-Linker. The problem is that when I try to connect it says 'Initialization of receiver failed! Restart receiver'. Can someone tell me why this happens and please help me with it? Thanks.

Media eLinker is a bugger.

Has it ever worked? Is this your first attempt with it?

Upgrading or deinstalling and reinstalling the program usually results in it malfunctioning.

I assume you have tried rebooting the PC and the Humax.

Sometimes you have to delve into the Device Manager.

I had this problem for ages and followed all the advice people gave me on this website - see the many threads on the subject - without success.

I eventually assumed it must be because I was using the VIA USB chipset which appears to give more problems than other types.

However, one day, quite by chance, I tried plugging the USB cable into all the different USB ports on my PC and, to my total disbelief, one of them worked ok with the Humax (and I didn't get the error message you refer to). I gather this may be explained by a quirky timing issue on the ports.

Anyway, do try it just in case it works for you too?

PS Assume you are using the latest version of elinker - 2.5 I think?

You could try disconnecting any other unnecessary USB devices - our Humax won't maintain a connection when our external usb HDD is connected to the PC.

Yes I am using version 2.5, I will try everyone's suggestions asap, it is a pain linking the Humax to the PC because the USB is a little short and I really have to pull both as far as possible to connect them.

Since the lates OTA upgrade, elinker is very flaky for me. It often drops connection whilst transferring files and won't reconnect unless I swith the box on and off Sometimes it crashes the pvr.

It seems not to happen if I make sure I am tuned to a channel that is not broadcasting at the time (such as BBC3 or 4 or maybe the Community Channel)

Try 303. Apparently blank all the time.

Hi i am new on here and hope someone can help me.I would like to download a "catchup" programme video on line to my PC and was hoping i could then trasfer this to a USB key or flashdrive and then put the key/flashdrive into the USB of my Humax to watch or record to the Humax hard drive to watch at a time to suit me is this possible?.
I have been told to download "e linker" which i have to my PC but my advisor (from Humax tech) sent me an e mail i did not understand and i think he thought i wanted to transfer something from my Humax to my PC which is not what i was after.

No it is not possible.
The Humax has one USB socket, it is a client device (like a HDD or modem) not a host like a PC, so cannot connect to another client device (USB stick/flash drive).
The Humax is not designed to play video files created elsewhere, and the eLinker program cannot transfer video to it.
By bypassing the Humax USB system, and connecting it's HDD directly to a PC, there are ways to put files onto the HDD, but at the moment it does not seem a robust or convenient way to watch those files.
Best to find another way to link them to your TV. It may be possible to view a digital camera (with audio facility) on the TV, and store the videos on a large flash memory card, although running time per file may be limited.

My DVD player (a Pioneer DV-400V) has a USB socket that can be used to play video on a USB stick (I have tried this and it works). It may also work with video on a USB hard drive, but I have not tried that.

The Pioneer supports various video formats, but not (of course) Hummy video format. If the original poster is downloading video from the internet, the files would not be in Hummy format anyway.
