Hello, Im using my 2G phone with a 3 simcard and am having a problem with mobile broadband. I can access the planet 3 page with my phone as I have the settings and all but my internet is not working with three. I use PC Suite to connect the cable to the computer and have checked the connection as 3 UK. It connects at speeds of 460.8kbps as it did with orange but dosen't let me access the net. Anybody know what I can do? Please help and reply as soon as possible as Im getting fed up!.
thanks

ooooo 3 in a 2g phone, I thought that they don't like this and get on at you after a while?

Anyway, Im not sure how the internet will work on GPRS with 3, but when you say it connected at 460.8kbps thats the speed the usb is(IIRC). The actual speed will be low and maybe slower than 56k dialup as its using GPRS and not 3G or Edge

3 will not like you. You are actually using the Orange network that 3 are having to pay for. I would imagine they will disconnect your for breaking the t&cs.

You cannot get speed like 460Kb/s using a 2G (GSM) handset. It's impossible!! You get around 30Kb/s on GPRS and perhaps as much as 250Kb/s at times using EDGE equipped phones on Orange and 02 who use this technology.

3's data is pure 3G and they don't have much fallback to EDGE or GPRS. You can get some services like 'My 3' and paid for downloads but Internet access is reserved for their own 3G and HSDPA coverage areas.

Bottom line is if you need speed you will have to use a 3G HSDPA featured handset or USB dongle.

Those are easily available but you won't get web access unless you agree to pay by the MB (£1 per MB) or buy a 3 add-on (Mobile Broadband Lite £10 a month for 1GB of Data).

Settings are here: http://www.talk3g.co.uk/showthread.php?t=857

Hi,thanks for all your help. I tried everything but no connection. I get a page http:\\notify.three.co.uk to enable cookies which i have done, but then don't get anywhere. Im now trying a nokia 6170 and same problem. I have borught the mobile broadband at £10 and also the internet monthly at £5 but still no luck. Any other ideas why it dosen't connect to three internet or shall I go to a 3 store.
I have paid for nothing really! and no refund

First of all you are allowed to use your 3 pay go sim in a 2G handset, they don't like it if your a pay monthly customer though.

Now back on topic, because your using your sim in a 2G handset that means your actually using the Orange Network rebranded as 3, you can only access planet 3 when using a partner network. That means you have no access to the internet and you will only be able to access planet 3 at gprs speeds.
