I assume the producers suggested he grow the beard to play one of the brothers, in the hope that he would become more 'ugly' looking. Don't think that exactly worked

Gad's another Brother - he doesn't really do much unless Neil's on as JAcob, and then he sings the 2nd half of one more Angel - he wears purple..
