Arctic Monkeys, Colin Murray...

sooo funny hearing them take the piss out of the Brit School!
A school to teach you how to be a rock star!

Arctic Monkeys speech was hilarious!!

"See you at the Crossroad!"

"mckenzie down there, his little face beaming"

Only thing i laughed at the whole night.

Colin Murray on Radio1 was funny too!

Arctic Monkeys, even though they are now massively successful, are STILL the outsiders at stuff like this, and you've just gotta love them for that.

AMs are OK but the hype is unbelievable - real "emporer's new clothes" situation.

I reckon bands like The Storys are much more authentic and deserving.

it's about how many journos 'discover' an act - not whether they are actually any better than othe rbands.

I still think they are overrated , it's like we're being forced to think that they are they most credible thing in the music industry right now.

what is brit school
A high-profile stage school that half the winners/nominees/performers seemed to have attended. The school was promoted heavily last night as the awards fund it.

There is really no excuse for Kate Nash winning- as I remember her being the least talented of her nomination group. The fact that she attended the Brit school must have helped her along.

Lol, good. I feel less sad now for linking the word Crossroads to Blazin' Squad automatically. Didn't realise they were in the Brits School

Last night proved that the music industry is now a closed shop. If you don't go to the Brits school you basically haven't got a chance in music these days.

Or X-Factor. I'm pretty sure Leona didn't go to Brits School.

Arctic Monkeys only said "ah look, its the brits school" - but his face had a real "you'll never be up here" look...

They write their own songs, have scored numerous number 1's, held the ""fastest selling debut album" record... had a huge 2nd album, headlined glastonbury....

As much as you would like to beleive it, you cant achieve all the threw hype! If millions of people are buying their albums then there must be some good material there!

If a band is over-hyped, it means the newspapers and media have lied about the band and said theyre better than they are, and therefore when people buy their music they would be dissapointed. But millions of people dont see to be dissapointded... so I dont see how u can say theyre overhyped!

Throughout the night, people kepts name dropping the Brit School, and people like Kate Nash were saying how good the Brit School was cause she attended, and was saying she still recognised a few of the faces (because all the students were down at the front).

So when the Arctic Monkeys got their award, they took the piss by pretending they went to the Brit School too and pretended they remembered the students!
They were goin "Hi Brit School! we were there too! We love you"
"Theres old McKenzie there, face beaming!" " See you at the crossroads!"
Just generally ripping the piss out of them!

See you at the Crossroads

reference to the old blues story about being able to do a deal with the Devil and sell your soul in exchange for fame and fortune - Robert Johnson recorded "Crossroad Blues" and also "Hellhound on my tail" - the former of which Cream made famous.
there was also a 1980s film "Crossroads" about the idea starring Ralph Macchio as a young guitarist setting out to discover the truth about it. interestingly enough, the character was at an elite music academy when the film
started.

I wonder if it was a comment thought up and rehearsed, rather than spontaneous.

It did feel like that, and it's quite sad. It's also quite London-centric - which means if you live outside of London I imagine it's quite difficult to get into the business, where as these kids seem to have it handed to them on a plate.

Not a big fan of the AM's music but had to laugh when they did that. I got more than a little fed-up of them bigging up the Brit school. Talk about alienating the viewers.

Personally, it's not my favourite kind of music (though When the sun goes down is an excellent driving song) but it's their attitude that gets on my nerves... they think they're being clever and ironic and rock and roll and to me they just come across as silly little boys. I was appalled by their behaviour at the South Bank Show Awards and by the sounds of it last night was no better.

I thought the comment was based on the fact that one of the band had just said they had seen "Kenzie" in the Brit school audience.

Kenzie = member of Blazin Squad who had a big hit with a song which went "See you at the crossroads...".
