No disrespect, but you have no embarrassment in proclaiming your love for Fall Out Boy and Rihanna, so I'm quite relieved you don't 'get' the Monkeys.

I do "get" Arctic Monkeys and think they have done some decent tunes but the extent to which they are worshipped , especially by magazines like the NME is a bit overbearing.

I dont like the Artic Monkeys, but have to admit the comment about the Brits School made me laugh out loud.

What was so appaling about their behaviour at the South Bank Show awards??? They were just having a laugh, they didnt diss anyone, they just joked around. And everyone else there seemed to find it funny and enjoyed it.. nobody got offended!

too much credit to AM for thinking that they would make an oblique reference to Faustian folk-lore.

so - did Blazing Homesteads intend that reference? it probably doesn't matter if AMs weren't being clever.

It wasn't funny imo though... it was just childish and built their own part up like they felt they were worthy of more time. The South Bank Show Awards are supposed to be an intellectual classy affair... they just showed themselves up as far as I could tell.

Me too! And then we mysteriously cut away from the speech to hear Cotton tell us that we were going to a break....

They don't seem to be outsiders to me.

They 'act' like they're all rock and roll and so disinterested in it all.......but they bloody made sure they were there to pick up their awards didn't they?

If they didn't care as much as they made out they don't then they wouldn't even turn up.

They only appear to do well there because they've been ALLOWED to do well. They feel to me as though they're there to serve the purpose of the Brits as a sort of token Indie/Rock representative.

They make out that they're so 'anti' all this Brits stuff, but they turn up to collect awards. So they're no less the little industry bitches than the very people whom they're criticising.
Hypocrites, trying to have their cake and eat it.
They're as much industry pawns as the very acts they sneer at.

They're such a cliche. That kind of posturing feels so dated and embarrassing nowadays. If they came across as though they were actually genuine in their feelings about the Brits and award ceremonies and had more sincere conviction then I'd possibly have more respect for them. But they just seem to be performing a very dated rock and roll rebel act, when they are pretty much part of the same machine as the people they look down their noses at and mock.
It's as though they are 'acting' in a particular way that they think rock and roll stars are supposed to act. But we've seen it all before. It just comes across as contrived and forced for effect.

They're current industry darlings too though.
They're even more overrated than the Monkeys as far as I'm concerned.

At least I think that the Arctic Monkeys' music is pretty good even if I do think they're just putting on the big rebel act.

Ah, interesting. Thanks for that I didn't know.
I'm glad to be educated about that little thing.

Maybe Alex wotsisname from the Arctic Monkeys knows his stuff.
But I doubt that Kenzie would have had a clue about what the words he was actually singing meant.

I've just had a look at the Brit School website.
It's free you know! Although I'm probably a bit old and untalented to attend.

Me too. They often come across as putting on the 'big I am' rock star act, but I did think that bit was the possibly the funniest bit of the night. Pretty satisfying anyway.
After all this Brit School promotional advertising, making out how going to stage school makes more credible artists, I was just getting wound up by the smugness of it all, so it was just great to see AM take the piss.
Good sense of humour under all that bravado and posturing.

They have snubbed the Brits in the past- the voiceover said so as they were walking to the stage.

I'm wondering if they only bothered turning up this time to take the p!ss.

Or maybe they just felt like an award was an award, and not to be sniffed at.

I'm not even sure they're anti-Brits art all- probably just against the Brit School cliquiness, which is only a part of the actual awards. They may not have a problem with the rest of the show.

I personally think you're looking too far into it.

I dont think the Arctic Monkeys can win with people like u.

The previous years they didnt go and collect their award, and they were blasted for Snubbing the awards, this year they turn up and people complain that they care more about the award than they let on.

People like me?

I actually said that I think their music is pretty good. Better than most of them there.

If it isn't Leona Lewis fans getting all defensive, along come fans of Arctic Monkeys to 'put me right'.

Who's complaining? I just said that I found their mocking of the Brit Kids funny.
There's even a post above saying I'm looking too far into it. Seriously, I'm just posting what I see. They pose, they posture, they go to pick up a Brit Award, yet appear to resent it. That's as far into it as I'm looking.

I do think that they care more about the award than they let on. Whatever they did before, last night they came to pick up an award from them.

I haven't blasted them for previously snubbing the awards. I think you're assuming that I'm the same person as some other people you've seen who've who 'blasted' them for that before. Don't be pigeon-holing me into a group of people you've personally experienced before, I'm not one of them.
'Blasted'? 'Slammed?' why are people speaking like tabloid paper headlines now?
I've never 'blasted' anybody in my life. I don't even know what that actually means.

Voiceover was wrong. Their publicity last year made a lot of them "snubbing" the Brits, but they actually accepted their awards and went to all the parties afterwards. They just didn't allow themselves to be seen in the main show.

How do you figure that out

The big winners last night were the Arctic Monkeys (Best British album and group), the Foo Fighters (best International album and best international group) and Take That (best single and best British live act).

As far as I'm aware, none of these acts attended the Brits school.

NME are pretty 'panto'- they pick heroes and villains. They tend to pick a few bands (at the moment, Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines/Babyshambles, The Ting Tings, Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jongs (whoever they are) and Lightspeed Champion (the bloke with the beard and stupid deerstalker style hat))

Then there are the people they hate- Johnny Borrell for one- not sure what he's done to them personally but they seem to love ripping himm to shreds.

Their awards are even less credible than the Brits! They have the same artist in opposing categories- several times! I.e. Pete Doherty and Gerard Way up for both Best Dressed and Worst Dressed at the same time. I would personally love to see what happens if one of them wins both awards!
