Should an FM transmitter drain batteries when turned off? I only use the thing once in a while but when I turn it on the batteries always seem to need replacing.

Does the FM transmitter display the time (or do something else that might use power in standby mode)?

I had the same problem with one that shows the time.

Since I started taking the batteries out after each use, I haven't yet needed to switch them for new ones.
I've used it half a dozen times over the last 2 months - total use nearly 10 hours - and the same set of batteries are still going strong.

Previously I needed new batteries every time I wanted to use it.

Exactly. It had a clock and temperature guage built into it. Whatever for? Why do manufacturers insist on providing these gimmicks? Couldn't be bothered to take the batteries out in between using it, and took it back to the shop for a refund. I only used it in the bathroom and I don't bathe that often

Recently got on from Ebay for £5 which turns itself off completely if no sound for 1 or 2 mins. Guess this saves the batteries? It also came with a 12v cigarette lighter adapter, at a pinch one could connect this to a 12v mains adaptor...

I tried that with mine but the amount of interference was unbearable. Now i connect it with a usb cable to either my computer or to my wii (if i want to listen to something from the amp - sat/cable etc.)

If it's the same as the ones I've used, a generic Nokia phone charger works a treat.
