Hi All,
Has anyone got this home cinema system ? I am looking to use this in conjunction with Sky HD & a Samsung le37m87bdx tv. I don`t have a big budget so cant go down the seperates route - this is on offer at Dixons for £220. Any info / advice welcome. Cheers.

Ive just got the Samsung Ht THX25r, its got very good speakers and the sound is very good, i like the upscalling, big difference between hdmi cable and scart connections when watching dvd's.
The only annoying thing or negative is that it dosnt have a digital input and i dont think your choice does either from what ive seen, this will mean u wont get true 5.1 surround sound when watching sky although i still think its very good for the price especially on the matrix sound setting.
I was on a budget and am very happy, although if u can find a model with a digital input it would help although they aint cheap

Just reading the Spec on dixons and this model dosnt have dolby pro logic II, this is the best setting on my system so maybe think about getting something with it on. I had the phillips hts3357 before and sent it back, it was rubbish.
My model the 25r (see above) which does have pro logic II is in argos for 249.99 but u can find it for 200 ish from the net

Hi Gaznik, Thanks for the responses. I am now confused....I had not looked at the spec detail on the Dixons site - only the price. I went through all the spec detail on the Samsung site & they say it has both an optical input and Dolby Pro Logic II. Just had a quick look at a couple of other sites and I think its Dixons who may have it wrong. Off to do more investigating now...any other comments views still welcome & thanks again Gaznik.

I've been looking at this system too. Aplogies for what's probably a stupid question but will it be possible to connect it to Sky+ and my PS3 (maybe the Wii as well but not to bothered bout this). If so what sort of cables would be required to hook it all up.

Hi Stephen, sorry I have no experience of Sky+ boxes or PS3 etc so cannot advise if this system will be suitable for you. I was hoping someone who had it would let me know if `it did what it said on the tin`. It seems that it will suit me as previous models have been given a good review. Just need to order it now !.

So I have ordered this home cinema system & its being delivered tomorrow. I have a question if anyone is able to help me...can I connect my hi-fi up to the home cinema to cut out the need for the hi-fi speakers ?. As a guess from a non techie like me could I connect the hi-fi red /white audio outs to the home cinemas red / white inputs and have the sound from the hi-fi coming through the home cinema speakers ?By having the hi-fi as an aux input . Clear as mud ? or am I just being daft ?. Another thought is to use the hi-fi`s 2 current speakers instead of the home cinemas front right & left speakers as they are in the correct position - if I was to do this then I am guessing I would just need to run an extra feed to each speaker from the home cinema......
Anyone got a clue what I am on about ! HELP !!!!

I would just use your dvd player for your music requirements, it plays nearly all music cd's mp3,s ect and has a built in radio tuner, the sound will probably be better than using your hi fi aswell !!!!

You could, assuming the red and white sockets on the back of the stereo really are outputs and not AUX Inputs. If they are inputs then you could wire them to the Home Cinema system but you won't get any noise out of them

But whatever you DO NOT wire two amp outputs to one pair of speakers at the same time!

If you do at worst you will damage the amplifier(s), at best it will trigger a protection circuit and shut down the amp. You must only ever connect one amplifier to a speaker. If you really do feel the urge to connect two amps to one pair of speakers then you MUST use a switch.

You also need to be wary of the differnces between the two systems. If the HiFi is say 10 W and the Home Cinema 100 W then plugging the Home Cinema to the HiFi speakers and turning the volume up is likely to result in the speaker cones flying out the front of the cabinets

And if the HiFi has 4 ohm speakers and the Home Cinema is designed for 8 ohm then you could damage the Home Cinema amp if you try to make too much noise as the speakers will be drawing twice the current the amp was designed to deliver.

All in all not a good idea to try speaker sharing if you are not 100% certain about what you are doing and know exactly what the specs are of all the kit you are trying to wire up.

Thanks for the replys guys.
Well good job I asked !. I did not realise the damage I could have done. I have the system and have just finished setting it up and for me ( and my budget ) it sounds great. I have tested a music cd and the sound is as good as the hi-fi so that has gone upstairs and now just have the home cinema for music but thats ok and less clutter too.
Once again thanks all.
