Hitacho Plasma fault

One of my mates ownes a hitachi plasma panel, the other day it developed a fault; in the form of a thin red line running verticaly about a 3rd the way along the screen.

does anyone know what this is and what causes it ?

I can tell you I had the same problem on a Hitachi 37" 5200 series Plasma after 9 months of use 4 years ago.

Unfortunately not an economical repair and the set was replaced.

With the set going tits up after only 9 months, did you get a new replacement under guarantee?

Failure of the PDP (Plasma Display Panel), a common problem on plasmas - as suggested, it means the set either requires the panel replacing, or the entire set replacing.

Yep.. I got all my money back. At the time the set was £2300, by the time 9mths had gone by I was able to purchase a 42" Hitachi for £1400.

His set is only 18 months old....oh well i'l tell him the excelent news. cheers for the replys
