I know this has already been discussed on the Ben thread (and probably others) but I felt that all the ADWD-related success deserved its own thread!

Joseph - Best Musical Revival

Had a fantastic evening at the WOS Concert.

Met up with the Angels beforehand - lovely to finally meet so many of them and put faces to their names.

The Concert itself was wonderful - both Daniel and Ben performing brilliantly in the first half which was the review of the previous year.

James Corden and Sheridan Smith were absolutely hilarious and highlights of the evening came from James ... firstly when he took the mickey out of Andrew Lloyd Webbers leather jacket (noone else would have the nerve) and then when he snogged (for ages) Daniel Radcliffe - yes he was there - which was hilarious but Daniel played along, good for him.

Lots of famous faces to see ... including Kevin Spacey, Lee Mead, Michael Ball and various other TV celebs too numerous to mention.

Had a great evening.

Nice to meet you Angels.

DEFINITELY going to next year's concert.

Was a great event, very very very funny.
Daniel is a really good actor, Ben looked great but didnt sound his best though his speech was very good (I'm not Joseph ).
Loved many many of the performances, especially from into the hood and departure lounge.
Wasnt keen on the buddy or take that sections, think I'll skip on going to either of those.

Was sat very close to michael ball who lead the clapping for leanne Jones entrance and laughed, cheered and clapped loads thoughout he was having a great time, apart from when James Cordon pointed him out to everyone.

Had a blast good to see some kittens(did you find daniel in the end?) and a lovelee.

I thought Daniel sounded fab, and I thought Ben did okay - but I've not heard him sing live before so will bow to your superior knowledge!

We didn't find Daniel - didn't wait around for long. We did wonder if he had already gone home, particularly if he was still feeling unwell.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I met Shoequeen (Lovelee) too ... who is lovely (sorry ).

I did wait at the stage door and when Ben came out Mermaid asked if Daniel was still inside (she was kean to meet him too) and he said yes so we did wait abit longer but then Mermaid's lift came and sadly she missed him. he walked past us but seemed ina hurry and was with freidns so we didn't stop him

I thought it was a great night with lots of things I now want to see and a few I would rather forget !!)

Ben apparently didn't know the song he was singing until 2 days before so he did do well. He sounded nervous to start off with and only a few off key notes (not the big ones though!) I know I am biased but I love the tone of his voice. Nice to see Daniel singing and acting from ILYB again

Sadly Jon Robyns sounded awful and thought he was supposed to have amazing voice!!

The awards presentation was greta and not long and boring altho a few thanked everyone they had met since kindergarten- Ben's speech was great and although he made a joke of not being Joseph he did go on to say how much the programme had meant to him

The gorgeous Mr lee Mead was sitting afew rows in front with a lovely grey suit on and wonky tie which i wanted to straighten (shows am not a lovelee or else would have wanted to take it off ) He was sitting very near Kevin Spacey.

Great show and great fun. Hope they do it next year

Kittens sorry we were late meeting up but glad we managed a quick hello and a drink!

Jon Robyns wasn't at his best last night - I've heard him a few times in concerts (as well as Ave Q) and this is probably the poorest I've heard him sing ... I'm not sure if the range of song was beyond him or he was just having an off-night.

Nice to see you briefly too Twingle.

If I peered over the dress circle front I had Lee immediately below me - I could have easily dropped something on his head - but of course would NEVER dream of doing such a thing

Glad you got to speak to Ben ... bless him.

Firstly, thanks to the angels for letting me join you - it was lovely to meet up with everyone. Also hurrah to Noah for coming over to introduce herself and the kittens... It was lovely to meet you too!

Right, my review/thoughts/ramblings.(with a bit more info thrown in for those unable to go!)

I thought the show was great fun and worked very well considering the lack of time that many of the performers currently on the WE stage had to devote to it. James Corden (The History Boys, Gavin & Stacey) and Sheridan Smith (Little Shop of Horrors I think) who held the show together were by and large fantastic. The former in particular was very funny, outrageous, increasingly drunk and most importantly, quick-witted enough to cover any minor technical mishaps on stage.

ALW collected the first award for Best Revival on behalf of Joseph, and seemed delighted. He gave a heartfelt speech about the importance of encouraging young people into the theatre and whilst I thoroughly agreed with it, I felt that as Lee was in the audience, he should have been included in the thanks/congratulations. Some other notable award-winners who turned up in person were Sir Peter Hall, Diana Rigg and, perhaps most surprisingly, Daniel Radcliffe.

I should point out at this stage that the audience were terrific. Absolutely everybody who performed or won an award got cheered to the rafters and it was lovely that this included everyone related to ADWD. (It would have been lovely to hear Lee perform to that audience too).

One of my main reasons for going was seeing Daniel in a "normal-sized" theatre (no disrespect to the Landor!) and he did not disappoint, giving a great rendition of one of the songs from 'I Love You Because' which he had performed last autumn. It was lovely to hear him able to give it some welly this time! It had not occurred to me that not all those performing would get songs from roles they had played. Leanne Jones was part of a trio who opened the show and whilst they were great, I would have liked to hear her sing a solo. I will admit to being very apprehensive when I saw that Ben, who had just won an award for a highly energetic, dance-orientated performance, had been given a song that was clearly more ballad than upbeat number. However he made a very nice job of it and was certainly better than others including Jon Robyns who I was rather disappointed with.

The final section of awards was described by JC & SS as 'the Hairspray section' and they did all their awards in one go. Full marks to Ben for his speech when he collected his award. He began his thanks with those for ADWD, ALW, BK and JB and was fully appreciative of the enormous benefits that the ADWD experience had given him. He even responded to James Corden's earlier (slightly tongue-in-cheek) pop at reality TV casting. His thanks to the cast and crew of Hairspray were also lovely and I liked the comments about Leanne.

Perhaps the only slightly disappointing part of the evening was the post-show Joseph spotting. I managed to miss Lee on no less than three occasions (which given how many times the angels and kittens saw him is pretty ironic!) I was too short to see over the paparazzi outside the theatre at the start, was up in the cheap seats so stood no chance during the show and came out of the wrong door at the end. By the time I'd run all the way round the theatre (in heels!) I'd just missed him nearly getting run over as he left.....
Because those performing were only on stage for one number each, as they finished, they mostly got changed and rejoined the audience in the auditorium. As a result at the end the stage door was hardly used and everyone left through the front causing a jam. Assorted minor celebs, proper celebs, performers and award winners were all attracting crowds and photographers and it soon became apparent that the most we could expect was a very brief word with Ben although his mum came over and said hello which was very nice of her. In the end, a hello and one nice piccie was pretty much all he had time for as he was clearly being pulled in half a dozen directions at once. Two down, one to go.....so we set off to see if we could find Daniel. Having waited at the front and the stage door for a bit we really had to head home and as we pottered away from the theatre, who should overtake us at speed but Daniel and his friends.... He seemed keen to get away so we didn't disturb him.

Overall, it was a hugely fun evening and my £10 for a balcony seat was money well spent (a vertigo-inducing rake to the seats but a very clear view of the stage and hey, although I never wondered what the top of Ben or Daniel's head looks like, now I know) Great fun to meet up with everyone and to be part of a 'one-off' event. Will definitely go to next year's show.

BTW - twingle, your comment about straightening Lee's tie has made me laugh out loud. Is it a mum thing?

Queenie x

Quote of the evening;
