Is it normal to have low signal with 3g active.
Couldn't really decide on a title for this, but in case it doesn't make sense I'll explain.
I've just bought a Sony Ericsson K800i on 3. When GSM and 3G are turned on I only get 1 or 2 bars signal strength. But when I turn the phone to GSM only I get full signal. just wondering if this is normal? |

Take a look at http://www.sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk and you will probably find multiple GSM transmitters for your service provider near to your location but only 1 3G base station. Your phone is connecting to the 3G base station as the preferred service.
I live between 300m of a Vodafone 3G base station and only get 1 or 2 bars of signal strength. I did experience continuous disconnections of my 3G data connection but when I disabled ActiveSync on my phone which was connecting using a a different APN to my Wap APN the disconnections stopped. In summary even though I only get 1 or 2 bars of 3G signal both from my home and out and about I have not had one single data connection disconnect for over 2 weeks and I do make heavy use of 3G data on my W960i. Sometimes there is a fair bot of lag but so far every page has loaded and I can't fault my data connection. I wrote about it in my blog at http://myw960i.blogspot.com. |
