What's your opinions on the state of dance music today? A few years ago it was being written off, people were saying it was dead, but it's made quite a comeback.

The electro sound has certainly helped, a few years ago I'd never even heard of electro house, I certainly didn't think it'd go so mainstream. It's also got me into house music more, as I was never really into funky house. I thought lacked both energy and the hands-in-the-air feel of 90s piano house. Not only that, but more tunes are using piano riffs these days too, so for me house music is miles better than it was a few years ago.

What's happened to trance? You never hear any of it these days, unless you know where to look for it. There's still lots of quality stuff being produced however, so I wouldn't be surprised if it makes a major comeback. It varies between uplifting trance and harder electro stuff too, so if electro house can become big, maybe electro trance can too?

What's the club scene like where you are?

I think Liverpool's still pretty good, though it's reputation is somewhat inflated because the likes of Cream, the 051, the Paradox, Pulse etc are now long gone. But Garlands and Society are still packing them in and there's also more underground nights like Circus and Chibuku. Not as much scouse house these days, but the Pleasure Rooms and the Sunrise are still doing well.

The clubs in Hull are pretty s**t. I only go to student nights, which are OK because I'm always in a big group and know loads of people there, but because we're students we're a diverse crowd so they have to play all sorts of music to keep everyone happy. That means a lot of s**t is played, far too much R&B. I've never understood appeal of R&B. I see as chillout music at best, how on earth anyone can dance to it is a mystery. What I like about Liverpool is that hardly any of that s**t gets played in clubs.

Early 90s classics certainly do the trick for me. I just wish I'd been old enough during that period, rather than still in nappies. And I've finally found out where the sample for Alex K vs Amen UK-Angel In My Heart comes from!

Yeah, there's Deja Vu at the Welly every Saturday but that's about it. Town seems rough as **** as well, scallies everywhere.
