"Gary Barlow has hit out at the Brit Academy for failing to appreciate Take That.

The band won awards for Best Single and Best Live Act at Wednesday's Brits, but Barlow is annoyed that they only triumphed in categories voted for by the public.

They lost out to the Arctic Monkeys for both Best Group and Best Album, which are chosen by the Academy.

He told The Sun: "It's amazing that when the public get to vote we always do well. It's brilliant. But it gets to me that whenever we have been nominated for other awards we always get overlooked.

"It’s a disgrace. I think we were in with a shout this year but it just goes to show we don't fit the mould.""

LOL, "Don't fit the mould"? Try telling that to bands that legitimately got snubbed like Iron Maiden, Velvet Revolver, Ozzy Osbourne etc. The reason Take That didn't win any non-public vote awards is because they fit the mould too damn much - an all-singing, all-dancing boy band.

Gary stated the obvious! Good on him.

The Brits are very anti what they think isn't "cool" Get to the Brit school and you'll win an award just how cool is that ? Its a comedy of a panel who dish those awards out. Like someone said before lots of bands get snubbed but its about time people spoke up like GB has!

As rubbish as the Brit Awards may be, acts who moan about the fact they didn't win an award when they "deserved to" (Lily Allen, Craaaiiiig David and now Take That) come across as having a severe case of sour grapes.

Suppose it depends on whats important to them - whether its being critically acclaimed or just publicly acclaimed.

LOL , I think they should just accept the fact that Brit awards mean nowt if you didn't go to the Brit school and be grateful they won 2 , even if their fanbase decided it.

Take That didn't deserve any more Brits IMO than they got. AMs are far more popular amongst people I know (even though I don't like them).

There were acts which didn't even get a nomination which I felt deserved one;
such as Fall Out Boy, The Enemy, Avril Lavigne, The Killers, The Wombats etc. Gary Barlow should just shut up; he was very lucky to get 4 nominations and win 2 awards - please don't whinge cos you didn't do a clean sweep!

I agree Alex91. To be honest I don't think they deserved any Brits and the fact that the two they won were those voted by the public just shows that they won on the size of their fanbase rather than generally being the best in that category.

I mean Shine really didn't deserve best single. If it was Rule the World I'd say it did deserve it but Shine is really really bad. They deserved it for Patience last year but not this year.

Also , Muse were robbed of best live act.

Why not? It was number 1 for 2 weeks and as of Jan this year it was still in the top 100!! It had every right to be nominated along with every song last year

What he's said is prob out of context only 5% of that is a quote!

Belive what you will but if he did say that he's right. Sure the artic monkeys had a big album but it was ages ago and they dissapeard they dont deserve to win! The awards are a sham with bands like sugababes and girls aloud being overlooked in categorys they should have been in. Sugababes have done more than the artic monkeys have done and they should have been up for best band. Brits suck and it means nothing these days

I see, so because the Arctic Monkeys album didn't stay in the charts as long as Take Taht's it didn't deserve to win? Favourite Worst Nightmare was lauded by the vast majority of the press (82% score on Metacritic) - it was easily a worthy winner.

Everybody wants the Take Thats, the Leona's, the Rihanna's to turn up and perform at the Brits because that's who people want to see, that's who attracts an audience, that's who sell records. But they don't want to give them awards.

Well eventually they just won't bother to turn up. Let the AM's perform next year and see the viewers change channel.

The critics are so out of tune with the real world it's untrue. They have turned it into a celebration of mediocrity.

Well said, these acts are what the public want to see and should get more recognition for that, not just because a few old stuffy men decided that they arent 'cool enough', that elitist attitude really peeves me off. Yeah let loads of same sounding boring indie acts perform next year and watch the the ratings die.

Well said gary, someones got to say it.

Indeed they were.

I think that Take That were definitely worthy of an award or two, just perhaps not in the categories they won them for!

I miss the days when the Brits had many different genre based categories (best rock, best urban, etc...). It seemed to open up the awards to many more bands who just don't get a look in now.

LOL, I'm no big fan of indie (I'm a rock/metal fan), but that's massively rich coming from a fan of Take That, who are the most stereotypical boyband in existence...well, next to Westlife and Boyzone anyway.

The Brits would attract a good, albeit it different, audience if they let bands like Iron Maiden, Guns N' Roses and Metallica perform. Don't say those bands don't sell records, as Metallica and GNR in particular have been massively successful.
